The "my co-driver has no balls" thread...
Discussion
Is it just me, or this year have co-drivers been dropping like flies? Maybe it's the post world-cup baby boom? England play, both people have a few drinks, bit more bedroom fun than normal, and come 2007 it all goes tets up.
After the 2006 race everything's great, co-driver's arranged, hotel, tickets and ferry booked and paid for. Now, though co-driver seems unable to ask the question which leaves me unsure whether to try and sell on his spot (which he's paid for) or wait for the balls to drop. As it is, if the balls ain't dropped by 10am tomorrow I'm in need of a co-driver for this.....

Hmm, the word 'co-driver' suggests that this person would or certainly may get to actually drive the car. In 5 trips to LM my co-driver (or passenger) as is more appropiate has never got to drive the car. Now this may seem a little stingy on my behalf but i have tried to get ins sorted and when i explain that i want an extra name added to my tuscan policy for 5 days, to include driving on the continent for LM week the phrase "not a chance in hell" seems to crop up. I should imagine that you hear it aswell if you try for the 'vette. Also these type of cars take some getting used to and driving on the wrong side of the road with a road full of maniacs in supercars aint the time to learn!! It does bother me tho that if for any reason i wasnt able to drive we would be in the 5h1t. What do other folks do?? Am i being unreasonable??
The cost for an extra driver on the Vette isn't too bad at all, think the last time I got a quote it was about £50. My issue is that with only just over 3 weeks till departure the lad still hasn't asked his missus in fear of what she might say. He's paid up and if I can't sell his spot he'll lose out, which also makes it more expensive for me in petrol, but thats not the point.
The clocks ticking till the spot becomes open......

I've never had this problem. It's just been what's essentially an admin charge to put another driver on for a week (£40 or so) and all named drivers are already covered to drive in Europe (so long as I'm there less than 30 days a year). I've found this to be the case with both the mainstream insurers and also the specialists.
All you are saying is you're going away for the weekend with a friend and want to share the driving. There's nothing very odd about that.

Dearest philip,
We have found that over the years, co-drivers are becoming less and less.
Maybe 'cos the hardened fans really want to take their own car to Le Mans.
"We" used to take 10 cars and 20 chaps ... nowadays, although we have more cars, we only take two or three passengers.

d I understand about people taking their own cars, but he's got a company Saab and agreed August time last year to come in the Vette. Now a baby's arrived he seems unable to ask the question "can I go" in fear of the wrath.
As it is, he's now officially bailed and I've replaced him already so jobs a good'un.
Just for F308MAN.... TT starts this weekend, yipppeeee

The relationships sound, the missus is sound. I think deep down he didn't want to ask as he didn't want her to say 'yes', but them have him by the meat & veg upon his return. Also, being a new parent he may have not wanted to go, but then not actually admit this.
As I explained to my old dear last night, on my calendar I've got the TT races and Le Mans, every year, regardless. Some people just have different commitments I guess.

Oh yes, seems there's a few Ph'ers over there so a few beers is definitely in order.

Unfortunately I arrive about 6:30am Saturday morning but will be down there for all the racing. My dad flies in just after 12 so we've got a race to Douglas to try and get in the Battle of Britain flight at 1pm, then get back to Ballabeg. We'll be up on the bank by the tea tent eating all the homemade cakes.
