Hi Guys, after reading through various threads from previous people I think that one way of uprating the front brakes on my 95 Chim 400 is to buy Sierra Cosworth 2WD 283 mm disks and Sierra Cosworth 4WD calipers and pads.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct and whether I will encounter any problems?

Kindest regards, Robin

Have a look here, Granada Scorpio calipers are mentioned with the 283mm disks as a direct fit....

2WD Cossie was the only one to have 4 pot calipers, although they are a heavy caliper and hard and expensive to get hold of. You'll need 2wd cossie uprights too afaik - someone here did upgrade this a couple of years back. You can go to 283mm discs and space your calipers out as a cheaper solution and this might be worth looking at, as might uprated pads. Given the probs of sourcing the ford 4 pots, I sourced a 4 pot brembo upgrade with 280mm discs from Godspeed, although in the I end traded my Chim' with a dealer and sold the upgrade kit to a friend. I'd caution you that the kit from Godspeed took a while to arrive, but the quality was excellent and it worked well when fitted.

If your car had the 240mm brakes as stock(cant comment on the other brake disc & hub specs) then you will need to drill the hubs out to 10mm from 8mm very easy cast iron is very easy to drill(dont worry theres lots of material in that area)you will need four washers(2mm thick)beetween the carrier and hub lugs to align the calliper carrier to disc centre you will need the granada bolts for the carriers to hub(still available from ford)this works with the 283mm 1st generation sierra rwd cosworth discs, you can use the stock brake lines also, thats it job done.
Any problems mail meblabla

On the above using four pots, ive just bought a set of 2wd Cosworth hubs for £40.00 and a set of Sierra Cosworth 4 pots for £30.00, just need some discs then I should be away for my budget conversion.

Will let you know how i get on.

I know to another set of 4pot cossy calipers if anyone is interested.

Neal,i was going to go the 4 pot route but was really gutted about the weight of those things so sold them on(saved me changing the hubs too),so rather than messing with said 4 pots i just used the Granny Cosworth units,i must admit these were a huge improvment over the 240mm unitseek

yes they probably do weigh a bit more (better dump the spare wheel and jack then now):-p

I do have a set of wilwood superlights from a cossie so maybe they might slip in instead but will still need the hubs anyway. And there seems to be lots of cossy owners breaking with big disc conversions so will be easier in the long run i guess to get a larger setup.

From the sound of it the Granny Cosworth calipers are the same as the Sierra Cosworth 4WD. When you said that the hubs need to be drilled out, do you mean the hub carrier? i.e. the holes the bolts go through to attach the calipers.

Many thanks, Robin

No sorry Robin i should have said Granny Cossie callipers are huge single piston sliding jobbies, the sierra units are 4 piston and the dimension are all wrong for the chim hubs(lugs are out by a mile)when i mentioned weight i was referring to unsprung,i,e more mass for the suspension to deal with, this was just a point if the 4 pots would have fitted with little effort i would have used them, they were that far out i might have just as well pulled a set from another car(any make) out of a lucky bag,i mean i did not fancy the chance of getting early cosworth 2WD 3 DOOR hubs that had not been wallopedeek
