Hi just a quick question
I have a 1972/73 911s wide body with exturnel oil filler i have 99% restored this car, but oil tank is nackerd . Can anyone tell me if it is posable to fit a later oil tank and if the oil pipes from a early car will fit a later oil tank.

If nobody has an answer here, the PCGB forums are probably a better bet for that kind of question.

For starters your car isn't original - they didn't build a "wide body". But I'm sure you know that....what have you restored it as?....an RSR replica I assume?
It's an E Series car if it has the external oil filler. It is possible to fit a "conventional" tank - they are both different shapes as I am sure you know, but the position of the "conventional" one is different.
As to your question about "early" and "later"...Porsche fitted the external oil tank for just one year - the D series and F series both have the oil tank in the "usual" place - in the pursuit of reducing the weight behind the axle line, Porsche re-sited the oil tank for the E series, but reversed this when (allegedly) people started filling the oil tank with fuel....
So your current tank is technically neither early or late....but given the tank's different shape, I doubt your oil pipes would fit a "conventional" tank. What I can say is that later oil tanks fit just fine...so you could use an SC tank - IIRC I used one of these when restoring my F series 2.4E
