I just saw the price, the car is fast enough as is thanks

Trust me when I tell you........no it isnt
The difference in acceleration is awesome from OE to 3.73 and 6th becomes useable......if you go the next step to a 3.91 it rearranges your internal organs in ALL gears
But don`t do it if you`re thinking about a blower somewhere down the line.

Not me Sir........a big single turbo & 7 litres is next. Have a Harrop cover and installing a rear mounted cooler.

Nice one, but have you read AM04ARO`s thread `Drivetrain woes` he had the cover and cooler too I believe.
The 3.91 is a must if you are interested in getting major kicks from your acceleration - it transforms the launch effect when you hold at a certain speed to overtake and nail it. I could not believe the difference between teh 3.46 and 3.91 when you hit the accelerator all those Clarksonesque metaphors spring to mind - it did help having 385rwhp of course
I believe A4MONARO did not have a harrop cover and cooler when he was having his problems. Tiler had one and has been running in excess of 600bhp with no issues what so ever although I think if you are going down serious FI route it is probably not worth it.

I have and if you check replied. No he didn't have cover or cooler, I pointed out a cooler could be fitted. Out of interest I am running circa 750 BHP now but with a progressive rather than 'brutal' power delivery, as would a sorted Turbo install. If treated properly any diff ratio is not a problem providing power delivery is not too brutal (hence my absolute dislike of superchargers). Check out Group B Rally car specs. Have owned, and still have, road cars which have far more power / performance than this out of interest so not just Interweb BS
Thanks for the warning though, nice of you to bother

Power delivery with a supercharger. Unless traction control used it is very difficult to get grip under acceleration with a 3.91 Diff, and in fact a supercharged Holden would probably be faster with a 3.73 or OE Diff and no traction control in the lower gears.

I agree 1st can give some traction issues, but after that dont find it to much of a problem
[unless you want it to be]yo welcome to have a go sometime,

Have had a couple of 'big power' SC cars though with similar tyre sizes so familiar with them, plus my driving 'style' is definitely unsuited to them! I sincerely dislike superchargers compared to turbos due to not only their power delivery but the limitation of power and power losses to drive them compared to similarly priced turbo installs.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
