Accelerate, lift off, feather throttle...voila!
Or, floor it to over 4000rpm, lift off....wallop!

Correct. The popping and banging is caused by auto ignition of unburnt fuel in the exhaust headers. Very simplistically when you lift off the fuel supply is cut off until the engine reaches tickover. To get fuel into the exhaust during deceleration you need to feather the throttle to override this fuel shutoff. Don't forget the exhaust also needs to be hot.Or, floor it to over 4000rpm, lift off....wallop!

Full decat, ACT manifolds y-piece and cherrybombs.. put it in any gear (2nd is best though) floor it up to 5/6k rev and back right off, except for the tinyest amount of throttle. Then sit back and wait for the cannon fire, as demonstrated here: http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r65/thenick100/...

Oh great, another chance to post a video of my old Chimaera demonstrating some great popping.....
