Recently had a new cam fitted, and it seems the garage had a bad batch supplied. Although they advised that it would last through my trip to Scotland if driven with care, it's gone dodo in N Yorks despite driving like a granny. What's the cheapest and simplest way of getting it back down to London likely to be, so that they can sort it? I'm not in the AA \ RAC, but that's mainly because I understood they wouldn't take you more than 8 miles anyway.

I thought AA relay took you all the way to your destination?

I think RAC is the best bet though. AA relay is what it says, a relay service i.e. your gonna spend alot of time waiting for the next van to come along to take you the next leg of the journey...

Sorry not much help.

IIRC, there is a period of time from when you take out an RAC/AA policy before you can ring them. Check the websites.

Join the RAC (get the onward travel option approx £80), wait 24 hrs, call them tell them your cars just broke down - take me Home driver smile

Exactly, they should never have let you drive it away. The cost is down to them. redcard

What is a 'bad cam' and how on earth do you tell you've got one or judge how long it's going to last? I'm struggling to imagine what problem would show up so quickly but still leave the car driveable without damage.

Where abouts is it in North Yorks? Id be tempted to fix it at TJ motors Boro`bridge then drive it home, and then argue the toss with the garage.
