Starter Motor Solinoids.
Discussion
Back in January I had a problem with my starter motor and it turned out to be the solinoid. When checking with my indie I was advised that it was not possible to get the solinoid as a seperate item and the cheapest option was to get a recon unit £200 +
It is possible to get the solinoids including the uprated unit that was as standard on more recent factory supplied units. Whilst i was not actualy charged for this (friend of mine) the price was only about £30 and if any body has a problem in future he would be happy to source them and post them out to you.

I've just got back from having mine replaced so I've learnt a bit about starter motors today. The symptoms I had when the engine was hot, 9 times out of 10 it would only 'click' when I pressed the button.
I went to Euphoria Racing (Steve Howard) to get it replaced, a reconditioned one - apparently a safer bet than a new one as the so-called new ones (if you can get one) can be of an inferior quality.
The starter was supplied by Racing Green, and after it was fitted it, all I got was a 'click' (Big groan from me and Steve) Steve then hot wired the starter straight to the battery and it still just clicked, but after about 5 'clicks' it fired up, Steve said what this meant is that the starter was faulty. Quick phone call to Racing Green who said they had another in stock, and would fit it if I drove down. Drove down there and had the new one fitted, it was slightly different to the one they had originally supplied, they fitted it and it worked. So I drove back home, stopped off for petrol, and with the engine now hot, crossed my fingers and it started
. so I stopped and started about 5 times, and each time it worked, did it again when I got home, and again no problem.
What I have learnt though, is that to test the motor you need to hot wire it.
Reach down and pull the multi connector off the starter motor.
Get a long length of Heavy duty cable, fit a female connector to one end, and push it on to the RED wire connector on the starter multi plug, now put the other end straight to the battery, if it still clcks then the starter is $hagged, if it fires up time after time then you have a voltage drop somewhere which will need investigating.
