Phoned Andy to book the Cerb in for her 12k service and to have my "noise" examined.

He can't fit me in until the 25th June, so unless I can diagnose the noise between now and then, I can't drive it!! frownfrown

That's a bummer, but it does shows how good he is.

I have to say that, as I delivered my car, in bits, on my trailer on Monday am, and I'm racing on the 9th so time is short. frown he was only expecting to tune it up, but when the valve guide came out in my hand...

I'm on the look out for a ported and skimmed AJP head if anyone has one btw.

Seriously though, there were quite a few Cerbs' at APM on Monday along with a few race cars, testimony to how well he can fettle a Cerbera.

Reading between the lines, I take it changing the oil seals with the heads in place didn't work then Tim?

Would have worked a tread Windsor, but the first cylinder I worked on, the valve guide came straight out of the head with no resistance whatsoever! Having checked it it's 0.5mm thinner in one plane, i.e. its oval, lots of evidence of it moving up and down in the head rather than staying put. frown

I have a couple of sets of spare heads, one of which was supposedly rebuilt and ready to go, but Andy told me on Monday that one head is ported and skimmed and the other isn't! Bu66er!!!!!!

So, this job on the Cerb' has gone from bad to worse, and to add insult to injury my 300zx has sprung a leak and is peeing coolant all over the place, and the Range Rover is off being resprayed, so I'm NOT having a good time with cars at the moment. cry

The developments of my Cerb Racer are taking up some of Andy's time! biggrin

Before it went in after Mallory it had had the following:

New 4.5 V8 with an Andy Mc Hybrid chip, uses 1.5 litres a minute but does it have grunt!!!

Decat big manifolds etc..

Stripped out totally and full FSA logged roll cage, seat strength and lightweight seat etc..refit the electrics.

Front suspension and chassis strengthened

Re-run fuel and electrics for safety and plumb in 6 point extinguisher

Ignition cut out and boot electrics made safe

Front spoiler

Blank off rear and strip boot

Secure fittings for boot and bonnet

Seal and secure boot to interior re:fire wall

Racing pads, uprated fluids etc..

Poly side windows

Two sets tyres slicks and wets

Cambers, corner weighting etc..

Current work:

Lowering suspension (again) and new springs and refurbed/stiffer shocks from GAZ/Absolutely Shocks (thankyou very much). Car now as low as it will go inc regs.

New cone diff with better ratio for acceleration

Big Brakes, just fit inside the 17 inch rims and air vented through the front of the car. The standard ones cracked and crazed under the heat.

Anti roll bars all now have Steve Heath rose joints

Lightweight bonnet made, sprayed and fitted

Flatter lower tank, centre of gravity etc..

Electrics moved again for additional safety

Additional fire safety

Rear TOW

Camber, corner weighting etc...

New set of slicks

Glass sized up for Poly

More bits removed for additional weight saving

OH! And 4.7 engine being built with all the bitslick

Settling it all in at Brands on the 4th, next race Snetterton on the 17th.

Thats freaky Tim - my engine had to come apart because of a slipping valve guide, and my MR2 has also sprung a coolant leak this week!!!!

Didn't your engine have a major oil consumption rate because of the guide? Mine kept fouling a plug every 50 miles or so until it was fixed. Now doesn't use a drop!!!

25th June yikes was hoping to get him to check out a misfire for me frown Might have to take the bull by the horns and try some DIY maintenance and check my leads and coil packs.. The fuel rail thingamy is fairly easy to remove on a 4.2 yes <.bites finger nails gingerly at the prospect.>

Anyway, perhaps we should all stop talking about Andy on here, maybe even someone could slag him off and say he is crap. Don't want him getting too popular.

As Ive just said on the TVRCC egroup, the long timescales for Austec and now APM are due, IMHO, to the fact that there is no real dealer network and this has put pressure on the good indies.

And they really do struggle with the demand. This will put pressure on the hourly rate ie to stem the demand.

I've just got mine back from APM (collected on Monday, complete with new radiator) & now have a mis-fire too (although of course, it was as good as gold while with Andy !!!)! frown

Have got a spare set of leads (thanks TT_Tim ! thumbup) to start trying to work out where the problem is tomorrow....

I am tempted to set up on my own. Get some pimply youths in to work on the cars, charge £100 an hour, make awful coffee and not provide courtesy cars. Damn that will be in direct competition to dealers.

Mine's there now, has just passed its MOT and ready for south of France in a couple of weeks. Hopefully pick it up today. Out of interest, what kind of noise are you experiencing?

There will be two, my one and Itsallyellows.

The reality is the Cerb in standard body form with roll cage even when stripped is about 1000kg and the 4.5 is putting out about 400 bhp in its current form.

The full on Tuscan racers are about 540 bhp a tonne based on their AJP output and circa 850 kgs wet, but it's not just the power but the weight in the corners.

I'm currently taking weight out and stiffening it up as much as possible to minimise roll.

The engine is hopefully to make up some of the difference.
