Where do I get one from and any idea how much , and how easy is it to fit ?

You will need to send them the old one (inner and outer) as a pattern



Tip: To avoid failures in future, have them make the unit 25cm longer, it allows for better routing, less sharp turns = less wear.

Cheers for that Andy , did a search and it only came up with ford cable . Presumably its the cable that goes in the left hand side of the gearbox , not sure how you get at the back of the speedo itself ?

You need HandsLikeAPaedophile(tm) to get at the back of the speedo. Once you do, it just unscrews (VDO instruments anyway).



Occasionally you need to take half the cabin to bits to get in there, but just think of it as trying to ransack your first girlfriend: lots of effort, sweating and grunting but worth it in the end

Thanks for that Ian , had a feeling it would be like that , not looking forward to wrecking my beloved fasia panel and the rest , quite useful to know what speed I'm going though what with those lovely cameras everywhere .

On mine, the cable goes from the gearbox to a unit under the bonnet, and then there is another short cable to the speedo head. - Mines a 400 hotwire, but perhaps it's the same set up for the 390 flappers too?

got mine for the 400 from tvr carparts, bit dear at 50gbp, but think a range rover one will be ok on your car, there is a specialst near me, how long is the cable, if you let me know i will call in

I presume you have vdo dials , if so cable must be same as yours , not easy to measure until taken off which could take a while ! Any help gratefully received !

That feeds speed data to the ECU in the Range Rover - Streaky

Not too difficult to take cable off vdo dial , or off gearbox , about 6 ft 8 inches length , problem comes when getting end through bulkhead , tight ! Inner cable is not broken so put some duck oil on both ends and put back on and went on a 40 mile blast , works most of the time , not so good at low speeds . Must be worn on gearbox end ?
