I've just had my car back from top end being rebuilt. Before it went in for a rebuild, when starting the car it had a motor that would come on after the ignition is turned on and you hear the three beeps. After the car has come back it only comes on sometimes. Can anyone tell me what this motor is for?

I thought it might be the power steering or the fuel pump. Can anyone just confirm this please?

I had it done at Autocraft.

Ian are you still wanting to meet up at some point as I would love to see your car!?

by the way, that noise is the fuel pump priming itself.

what had gone on it to require the top end rebuild

sorry for the questions franco, but i've had bad news from the garage and i'm looking at the same thing.

Thaks for that in Tamore. Is it a problem that its not being primed then? I've not had any starting problems with the fuel or starting!

As for the rebuild work. I took it in for a full service and general look over as I'm doing 4000 miles around europe next week. They told me that two of the valves were loose and needed replacing before more damage done. I went for the option of whilst the engine was out to have all the usual things to go wrong relaced: valve guides, valves, cams, finger followers, uprated oil feed etc.

Whats wrong with yours?

Awww don't spoil it for the rest of us.

If you're worried about name n shame then use anagrams or change the name completely.

Anyway - sure the noise wasn't the NASA stylee heater flap farting about?

Turn the fan on and try again.

Could of been something to do with that as the heater fan is not working at the mo (needs new connector to the small controller board)

it's not the fuel pump, that is higher pitched, fires when de-imobilised then stops. I think the noise you are hearing is a lower pitched noise. When I got by Tamora, RG told me it was the leccy power steering pump.

So here's the conundrum, when my tamora was poorly that low pitched pump didn't go, yet I still have power steering. The prob with the tamora was there was no AC, no heater fan and no leds on the heater controls.

It went to RG, I left it, they started it and all the heater controls and AC worked! So I picked it up, they do indeed work and the low pitched pump noise is back!

confused of epsom!

Just checking - did you press the lower fan button in - this turns them on/off. Many new customers learn this the hard way.

lets just say it involves a warranty claim, and what is and isn't covered by a policy with wear & tear clause.

and........ oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh. that noise.

I need one of these as well! I have a new connector but no pins to go in it so it is useless at the moment! I'm verging on having to solder the wires directly onto the heater amplifier (the circuit board with the two large capacitors on). TVR Power are tying to source the pins but not had any joy so far. I had to cut the connector off as it had shorted and melted.

I'd be interested to know what you find!

Is the motor you talk about definitely the fuel pump? You sure you aren't talking about the fan for the dash pod? I suppose it might be your air con, or the internal fans as you say. I've not had fans in the car for a while so I've forgotten what they sound like! I've got to get the fans sorted for Le Mans though!!

My heater fan has been working on and off for a while now and my misses refuses to get in the car without it which isn't such a bad thing.biggrin
I rang Bell hill garage to see if they had a spare conector with pins but no luck. Then I rang the garage to say I couldn't get one and they said they already had one out of a Mondeo. Hopefully prob solved! Give autocraft in Salisbury a ring and see if they have any more. Hope you get it sorted as its kinda essential for Le'mans trip!
