Not a drop mate...the oil is changed every 5,000 miles regardless...in fact I'm going to change the oil this weekend.....seriously the bike has been really good, a testament to modern Japanese 1,000cc bikes EVERY yammie sportsbike ive ever had has done so

That's a good milage,Has nothing gone wrong at all. I've had one fairing bracket replaced and the TPS, all under warranty.I usually manage Seven too eight thousand miles per year, summer use only.
I change the oil and filter myself two or three times per year, and no it does not use any oil, unlike my previous Exup's or YZF 750's.

I had the TPS changed under warranty and as part of the recall but the new one they put in played up so was changed again, ironically the original one was fine, again this was all under warranty. Like you I change the oil & filter & brake pads myself and have had the 12,000 & 24,000 mile service done by a Yamaha dealer. I can honestly say nothing has gone wrong at all and the R1 has been used in all weathers in the UK all year round & a 3,000 mile trip around France & back. I'm not going to sell it and will keep it for quite some time as my commuter even when I do get a Ducati 1098 to polish after and keep in the garage

Strange one this but my K6 GSXR 1000 doesn't use any oil - AT ALL! Any thoughts on why that is?
I heard the reason from a Yamaha main dealer that yammies use oil because of the way the pistons and rings are die cast/manufactured.
I also read in the comic that even the later ones liked a sip of the stuff as well but if yours has been good, as you say, it’s a testament to jap engineering.
My mate had his 50,000 mile K3 Gixxer thou stripped by Road n track in Aylesbury because he thought it MUST need something looking at by now
The suggested a new sit of rings, that was it…awesome stuff

Similarly my Feb 05 GSXR 750 will very soon be getting it's 32,000 service. Apart from regular servicing / consumables it's just needed new front & rear wheel bearings, but will need some new rear bearings soon.
