I have bought a new key fob and need to get it programmed. I read somewhere that if you unlock your car manually (ie by turning the key), then put the new key in the ignition, it will code itself up to the engine. This seems to be the case, since the car started up no problems on the new key, to my pleasant surprise.

However the new key doesn't lock or unlock the car remotely. I spoke to a Monaro dealer who told me that anyone with a Tech 2 could do this for me - well my local dealer (Aldershot) tried and said they couldn't do it without some software from Australia??

So - how can I get this pesky thing done without having to drive the car half way round the country to a dealer that happens to have the right module or whatever they appear not to have???

I have the same problem: 1 x original key ( still working ) and 1 x new fob that doesn't work :-(. If you guys are going to get together to sort it out maybe I can join in! I'm in Godalming, Surrey ( year 2000 GTS))

Oops

Apologies, Paul - didn't see that reply.

I was under the impression you knew some clever way to do it without going to the dealer.

I took it to the local Vauxhall dealer and they apparently don't have the Holden profile and seem (for some odd reason) to be unable to get it. So I'm stuck.

Although at least it starts the engine so I guess I'm not completely stuck.

The feeling I got from the way they were talking was that it might cost them money to get hold of the Holden profile... They suggested that perhaps I could try to find a dealer that already had it....

In Oz it would appear that you can get new keys programmed at little "Mister Minit" type key-cutting kiosks - how do they do it then??

I am in the same position with my 2001 GTS-R so am interested in the conclusion.

Just waiting to have it back from Mark at RapidGB with the Whipple and a load of other goodies bolted on.

How frustrating would it be to get it back and then not be able to start it because the one remaining key went down.

Fate - tempt - me ?
