Hi

Going off to spec up GT3 this Friday.

It will be part of the 08 allocation and may be ready to collect

by Mid Aug 07.

If i collect it in Aug from Germany but get local OPC to

register it early Sept will it get a 57 or 07 Reg'n mark?

Cheers

I collected my GT3 in mid Feb and waited for two agonising weeks so it could be a 07 reg. So no problem apart from leaving car at OPC and having to wait (which after a nice 800m trip back from factory is not easy!).

the question is already answered.. but just to back it up.. .just think how many '56' plate MG/rovers there are.. and that is after they went bust.

it's not the build date. just the registration date.

You're *effectively* driving on 'dealer' plates when you drive it back from Germany.

why did you have to return it to the OPC?

Rus - sorry for my ignorance here.. Why did you have to wait for the plate?

Could you have not just got the 56 plate instead? Am I missing something?

If you do a factory collection, the insurance for the car is valid in mainland Europe and for a direct trip to your UK based OPC. This means that once you enter the UK you need to go direct to your OPC and have the car UK registered. In practice if say you arrive at a time when the OPC is closed you can go home and then take the car to the OPC the next day.

If you drive the car around in the UK for a few days before visiting your OPC you need to get your own UK insurance company to insure the car on the Chassis number. If you dont bother and try and rely on the factory collection insurance, you are technically uninsured.

If you want to take advantage of a UK plate change it is quite in order to drive to your OPC at the earliest opportunity or on chassis number/UK insurance and leave the car there until the date the new plates come into force.

SL Boy - thanks for the explanation. A friend of mine brought his turbo back from Germany recently and was clearly unaware of this as he then went on a tour of the UK in his factory plates. Could have been nasty..

Scampster - lovely spec - looking forward to see the pics.

Enjoy!

Completed the order today.
Unfortunately factory collection not available due to
Aug factory shutdown but saves me £1k.
Sports footrest not available on UK spec cars so that was also out.
Decided to add sound package and auto dimming mirrors.
Have asked for it to come on Michelins but no gtees.

Just counting down the days now.

As it was only 10 days prior to 07 I could not see any point in having a 56 plate.
Factory collection gives you 10 days full insurance including the "ring".
You are able to continue driving up until the cut off date at which point you have an unregistered car and no insurance.
If required I believe you can pay extra to lengthen your insurance duration.
Hope this is of use.
