I'm taking my Griff to France, for its holidays, in August. I seem to remember someone posted a photo, of where the black tape goes, on the headlights, to sort the dipping problem. Can anyone help?

Cheers

Been abroad with my Griff many times and with groups of TVRs with the TVRCC and no one ever bothers to fit tape to Griffith headlamp covers. The light gets so diffused by the perspex that it's just not worth it. You may want to fit some yellow bits to your main-beam lamps for purely cosmetic reasons, in case you are worried about getting pulled, but as I say, this would be purely cosmetic because they will obviously be off i.e. dipped when another car is approaching. Personally I wouldn't bother. Rich...

I agree. I've taken my Griff to Spa and the Ring a couple of times and have not done anything to the lights. I take some black PVC tape just in case the gendarmes decide to pull me and then I can ask them where they want me to place the patches. However, Griff lights are so dim that no-one will see you anyway. hehe

We have a Griff that is now registered in Monaco and was registered in France after we moved here a few years ago. Every 2 years it goes through it version of the MOT which includes checking the light alignment. It passes every time even though nothing has been changed since it was originally built for the UK market. (All other UK cars I know of that are re-registered in France have to have lights adapted or changed). So there must be something about the Griff lights that makes them OK for either side of the road.

There is something special ... the lights are diabolically bad and incapable of blinding anyone regardless of whichever side of the road they are.

Enjoy yourself, I'm sure you will, the roads over there are excellent. Don't forget to take the obvious stuff like; warning traiange, hi-vis vest, a few tools, fuses, zippie ties, etc.

Thanks Rich, i shall be carrying the usual collection of belts, throttle cable, bulbs, tools and fire fighting tools. I can't wait to drive with the top down while wearing a high vis jacket. The route will take in D-Day Normandy, Le Man's Museum, down towards Spain, swinging East to the bridge at Millau, over towards Nice then up to the Alps for a wedding. So I shall also have at hand various TVR friendly contacts in France and get me and car home deals should things go pop.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT stick just any black tape to the Griff perspex covers. I did (insulating tape) and the glue on the tape has crazed the perspex. I've seen lots of other plastic headlighted cars with similar glue stains and crazing.

They are expensive to change!

Wow, that's a lot of driving but I'm sure you'll enjoy it! I just got back from the Racing Green / Driving Adventures tour to Cannes & Monaco taking in the Millau Bridge en route, great fun! If you are interested there are some pics here... smilehttp://www.driving-adventures.co.uk/gallery/Album1...

Thanks for the tape note Ian, i shall carry it only to show willing with French BIB. Rich, it looks like it was a quiet little run (not!) I'm taking just over a week to get to the Alps, so not as frantic as first appears. Then spending a few days in Morzine before a straight forward trundle back via the tunnel.Going out via Caen. If i have any decent photos or adventures I'll post them when i get home.

'Fraid so, but we've got one of those chromed GB with chrome surround, which I think suits the car perfectly. Have to agree with the comment re the headlights, they really are so bad on dip beam that you'd never even light up the other side of the road, let alone dazzle the driver.
