window mech's not working - I've got the door panel off and I know that 12V is arriving at the motor when the switch is pressed. No movement whatsoever. Any ideas?

Try tapping the motor casing with a hammer... it may be jammed and might need a bit of persuasion.

If still no joy...

If you're sure the problem is in the motor, it would be worth stripping it down to see if it's fixable. I've had several window motors in bits over the years (though not TVR ones yet!) and there's usually not much to them. It could be anything from a broken wire, to the commutator needing a clean, to a mechanical seizure (clean & re-grease). After all, if it doesn't work now, what have you got to lose?

This may not help !!

I have just changed my drivers motor as it was stuck solid and the cuts to my arms from removing the bloody thing from the door are stll stinging

The motor was dead as a dodo until i hit 70mph or so ( cough cough ) and then for a giggle i hit the button and the window worked fine !

Then whilst driving at a normal speed nothing !

Best of luck hammer sounds tempting

Thanks lads - especially to Mike's in-depth analysis of "Yer Motors F*****D". ;-)

I already tried tapping it with a hammer to no avail; I know it's drawing about the right current for a stalled motor because the voltage drops when the switch is operated by the same amount as the passenger window when that hits the end stops.
As a last resort I'm going to try to belt it with 24v (and lots of current) over a short period to try to free it. If that don't work then it's gotta come out.
Hey-ho!

Just to close this off.... the problem was that the worm gear shaft in the motor gearbox had corroded into its bearing. I fixed it by stripping the gearbox, cleaning and re-greasing it and re-assembling it and it works a treat now. Water had got in through the gearbox output shaft and caused the corrosion.

Glad to hear yours is sorted.

I have my passenger door panel off at the moment (got my girlfriend to do the really fiddly bit! - shes not forgiven me yet!!) because there is a horrible grinding noise for the first 10 mm when the window is fully up, then - with manual intervention - the window mechinism works normally for the rest of its travel.

I havent removed the motor, because i assumed the whole mechinism would need to come out, and i guessed that the motor converts rotory movement to linear via some inaccessible sealed flexible rack and pinion design.

Is it worth me trying to dismantly any further, or once some teeth have been stripper on the (flexible) rack does it just need scraping.

Was going to ring the garage next week.
