After having a few problems with my dash display I am left with a System Fault 149: clock error which is from the RTC (Real Time Clock) on the dashboard ECU. The fault will clear using the fault clear selection within the service menu, but the clock still does not run and the fault appears again at the next switch on.Re-setting the clock on the display makes no difference.

Anyone know how to reset this?

Hi - this kind of function is there (probably) so that the fault logging/service screens in the dash menu can log time/date against events/failures. In computers they normally need battery backup (like a coin sized thing), so if there is one in the dash (I can't remember now) it may have failed, although with it being a car with a whopping great 12V monster elsewhere it maybe isn't required). It's maybe reporting a fault because the RTC is reporting a time/date before the last event, for some reason. I think you may have to get the service centre to plug in their PC and correct it via the TVR software. I take it you have the time/date set correctly in the appropriate dash menu, for starters?

The Dash ECU does have a battery backup for the RTC, however the switch over to the battery backup does not appear to work too well, batterys are OK BTW.I have seen quiet a few post about this clock fault after the ECU has been disconnected/re-connected, and have come to the same conclusion as your self that it has to be reset bye an external PC.

It should be enough to remove the PCB from the car and then remove the RTC battery for a few mins to reset the RTC.

Once the PCB is re-fitted and the RTC battery replaced then all should be well. However, i dont know how the controlling software is written (I have been told by one person on this board that its pretty ropey). It might require a gentle nudge by a plugged in laptop, but this would be a little stupid, though a nice revenue earner further down the line at service time.

If you change the time via the dash and its still not playing ball, then im wondering whether the RTC crystal is knackered as that would stop the RTC working.

Must say, dont have this sort of issues with the RTC's i work with!

I tried removing the PCB and re-fitting it but my error still comes up.

Disconnection/re-connecttion did not work on mine either, there is a setup connector on the PCB:-

Although dealers don't seem to have the connector for this or the setup programme.

Looks like another one for the list at next months service.

RTC's are pretty simple devices. They only need a simpler User Interface to set the date and time up. Then they just run, or in TVR's case they dont! You certainly shouldnt need to connect a laptop or other unit to set it up. I would have expected the clock setup on the pod display to adequately handle that.

However, I'm wondeirng if they don't handle the year correctly and the use of a laptop sets the date, as from memory on the pod setup you only set the hours and minutes, not year?

NCE61, can you see any markings on the IC in the bottom left hand corner of your picture (U7? - i think).

On my previous MK1 Tuscan a similar clock error could be re-set using the dash controls, and I thorght this would be similar. The year is not setable however the hour adjust now only goes from 0 to 11 I thorght it was in 24 hour format before? The ECU was checked on a test rig two days ago due to blank display problem and no fault was found.

There are markings on the IC, but I can't see them on the pictures that were taken and the ECU is now back in the car & a bit awkward to get to in the Tuscan.
