Okay I'm after some ideas for a new bike.

I've had two 1150 GSs for the last four years and I want to change, but I'm not sure what for. Oh and getting another GS is just too lazy. My main reason for changing is only due to milage. I tend to do about 15-20K a year.

I want to be able to play in the corners, carry some luggage (now and again), have it start everyday for work and to be comfortable riding around Europe. All out speed isn't that important.

Currently I guess I'm looking at:
R1150 GS - a very safe option
R1200GS - Safe option
KTM Adventure - Don't know anything about them
Ducati Multistrada - reliability question, would need a larger screen?

Am I missing any bikes or does anyone have other ideas?

Assuming (from your list) you don't want an out and out sports bike then how about:

Triumph Tiger/Sprint
Yamaha TDM900
Suzuki Vstrom
Honda Varredeo (SP?)/Blackbird/VFR
Ducati ST4s

To be honest... I'd stick with BM's.

I had a 950 adventure which was a great bike, but its much more highly strung than the BMs, takes much more maintenance. I rode mine to Oz and literally destroyed it, there was nothing much of it left when it got back -it certainly couldnt be used now. Theres no comparison that to my mates 1200GS which has gone to India and back - thats still really usable. Multistrada... Not sure, always look like they are made from old tin cans but meant to be OK.

I'd stick with the GS, its the best of its type and as you are doing 20K a year in mileage then I'd go with what I know... Dull but sensible!!!!

If it's for road use only then perhaps you should look at some of the other, non-offroading Beemers, like an R1200R or R1200ST. The R1200R got a bit of a bad reception when it came out, so I imagine the dealers will be trying pretty hard to shift them.

For the trailie in you, get a 1200GS, you will not regret it.
If however you are like me and want a change, buy an R1200ST. Bloody brilliant (yes I know its not beautiful) much quicker than the GS and funnily enough far more comfortable.
Drop me a line if you need any detailed info.

I actually quite like the looks of the ST. The front light is a little challenging but the motor, mechanicals and paralever look brilliant. I also like the way the (stock) zorst can balances the single-sided swing arm, very clever work by BMW.
