About to referb the Dash, going to stick ply to the metal and then walnut veneer to the ply. What are the best glues to use for each joint. Also what is the best varnish\whatever to use to finish off.
I am not interested in any metal dash, I like the walnut.

I do a lot of veneering in the course of my business and use traditional animal glue, smelly, sticky but very versitle, can be reheated to remove veneer or ironed to remove bubbles or to stick awkward areas. If you are anywhere near me happily do it with you...no charge!

Just be careful that the extra thickness of the ply doesn't prevent the instruments from fitting properly. The original has the veneer straight onto the metal backing.

Why not ask Malcolm Hall from London Carriage Craft for advice on the best glue to use?

The ply I am using is for model making, 3 ply is just 0.8mm thick, same thickness as the veneer so I don't think that it will affect the fitting to much. Couldn't beleive that you could get 3ply so thin.
