Hiya all
I have posted a message before this one so forgive me if it sounds familiar.
I have a 944s 88 model in great condision but the car just wont run right, i bought it a few weeks ago and since have serviced the car (timing belt, balance shaft belt, oil, plugs, brakes, air and oil filters and so on.
The timing is exactly where it should be and everything accoriding to my machanic is correct but the car suffers from serious power loss, the car will start and idle brilliantly but as soon as you put your foot on the gas its just really flat and back firing through the airbox, that would suggest a bent valve or airflow meter problem and due to that backfire I had it compression tested and all cylinders are good. dizzy was changed and all ht leads and still nothing. my next course of action is to change the ECU and then the airflow meter but if they dont work I am at a complete loss with this car. Im not really sure where to go from here, any advice from you guys will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Damian

PistonHeads > Gassing Station > Porsche > 944S2 - engine misfire - long story but useful to owners.

Might be useful to you.

If everything else is ok and nothing has changed this sort of problem often is caused by poor air readings which then throws out the mixture causing the poor running. Look at the AFM!

Is your car a 16valve (Ventiler) 944S? In my dim memory I recall this model have some issues with the top-end?...that's what made it a poor secondhand buy - may be worth googling it, posting on PCGB website and searching PH

Firing order is correct and to answer the other question it is a 944S 16v i have googled it as much as i could and have found pretty much everything i can about it and still nothing a all of the problems that have been mentioned i have either corrected or didnt need to correct. I do know that there are air issues with this car causing a lack of powe, but i have had the mixture adjusted to compensate for this. I still am yet to change the ECU and airflow meter but i'll be sure to let peeps know what the outcome is.

Try Clarks Garage.
American 944/924 site, with a lot of detailed answers to all kinds of questions about these cars.
I don't know how to do a link but google will find it. Good luck.

Does it smell rich. I had a 944 Turbo and the fuel regulator went on the fuel rail causing problems similar to your description.

ok to answer both your questions, the Airflow meter hasnt been tested yet as im still trying to source someone who has one that i can test, and Yes the car smells very rich. I mentioned i would try another ecu which was done today and for some wierd reason didnt even fire with it in, put the old one back and it started first time...
Im considering breaking the car up now as i really havnt any more ideas
