Probably the best experience in the world...

Even better than Carlsberg...
I've had the TVR for about 2 years now and have loved every minute of it, dodding about the local roads, mostly on my own as the wife and 2 kids don't fit... big smile, and the knowledge that there's not many of these about and it's a bit special.
Then last wekend I go on my local TVR Car Club's 'Holy Island Hoon', whereby I was one of 37 TVR's driving in magnificent convoy around some excellent driving roads in Northumberland... and wow, what an experience... from the minute I joined the convoy, to the minute I got home... hairs standing up on the back of my neck, and the sense of pride in being part of one hell of a spectacle... it was teriffic... and I just had to share it... if you're not a member of your local TVRCC, then go and try it... I'd highly recommend it, bloody fantastic.

To which of Northumberland's excellent driving roads do you refer? IIRC, the A69 west from Newcastle towards civilisation, is frequented by nose to tail convoys of HGVs who, when on any stretch of dual carriageway are inlined to start an elephant race
The A1 from Newcastle to Berwick is littered with mobile speed camera sites, lots of neeedless solid white lines and prominent cheery signs telling you how many people have been killed or seriously injured on said carriageway.
The causeway to Holy Island, whilst picturesque and previously a film location for the filming of a Renault advert 10 years ago is often ankle deep in seawater and not really suited to the inadequate rustproofing of the TVR chassis.

Theres a lot more to the North East than the the very bland A69 and A1... he says very defensively... bit like me saying what's in Lancashire other then the M6 and M62, better known as car parks...
Good point about the causeway though... however, on the day we went it was bone dry.

There's something surreal about razzing round in a convoy of TVR's - its like being famous for the day!
I've been in a few convoys myself, most notably down to LeMans in what could only be described as an 8 hour trackday across the magnificent French 'B' roads.
You either get TVR or you don't. Thank God I get it.

I like it fast I like it slow... and being in a convoy really is great fun no matter what speed your doing and as you righly pointed out its like being famous for the day.
I do get the point on the cameras as its so easy just to put your foot slightly down and its 3 points as a reward. I can see my road angel getting thrown through the window with all the cameras up there.

Interesting point about the speed cameras 'up here'... true for Northumberland and more so closer to Scotland... but did you know Durham are the only constabulary in England not to have any speed cameras?I do get the point on the cameras as its so easy just to put your foot slightly down and its 3 points as a reward. Apparently the Chief Constable doesn't believe they improve road safety... good man!!
