I've just changed the Oil on my '88 350i.
Put in Valvoline Racing 20/50, oil pressure seem pretty good with it, and I know lots of people who recommend either a 20/50 or 10/60 for the rover V8's
The one in the 350i, is 'relatively' unstressed and a 20/50 will help to maintain pressure.
Just be careful when changing the filter, as there is a tendancy for the oil pump to drain down, and thus need priming before you start the engine.
Do a search on the Wedge Forum, as there's plenty of advice on there HTH.
