My 2004 model TT's air con seems not to be working (well, barely at best). On a car this recent is it likely to just need a regas or could it be something more sinister? Thanks for any advice guys!

used mine for the first time on my 996tt last week and while it works it's not very cold. air is coming out quickly but not cold cold. either my a3 has an awesome air con system or the porker's one is not working correctly.

i think a re-gas is the first thing for me to try.

Its no wonder its not cold if you have only just used it. Mine is 8 years old and has never been switched off. In summer its cold cold cold and in winter it demists the car in a second or 2. Its a well known fact that if you dont switch it on often, the seals dry out, crack and you loose the gas. The lubricant is in the fluid so it has to be on to lubricate.

Don't halfords sell the gas now? I think they'll even do it for you if you don't know where the engine cover is smile

Not something that you'd do yourself unless you've got a regassing machine, and my money's on that being unlikely...
(PS - its the front bonnet that you'd need to use wink )

Got JZ Machetch taking a look at it next week so we'll see. Hope (on a 3 Year old Porsche) it's nothing more than a regas. If it is then I'll no doubt be posting how uinreliable my 996TT is compared to my Sagaris (just needed new rear spoiler motor, thankfully OPC Warranty covered it - but only after an appeal to Head Office who replaced it "as a sign of goodwill&quotwink.

Judging from the multitude of posts on Porsche A/C and my own experience , it'd be very advisable to get a leak test done before paying for a re-gas.
The contents of your a/c pipes don't just disappear ... So it's most likely to have leaked from a holed condenser (they get holed by the same stones that make pretty pictures on your p/u hehe)

.. If the air feels 'slightly cold' it's probably because you're sitting in a car that's heated up to say 25c and the air being pumped in from outside is less than that....

Best to run the aircon all the time.

to be more precise, what i meant on my thread jacking post was - in 7 months of having the car last week was the only time i really needed it and turned it on only to find it was not as cold as it should be. I ve used it in the past but because it's not been that hot it was hard to actually tell how cold the air con was.

My 2004 TT also suffered from a lack of cold air (with me in it there is always plenty of hot air mind hehe)

The OPC put some blue dye in it and regassed it. No leaks. Now all good.

£170 though !! readitcensored
