Gents,

Sure there are some people on here with 8 valve 924S/944's. What sort of MPG do you get?

Mine used to return low 20's. Theres a bloke in the classifieds selling one he reckons does 40 MPG! Was I massively unlucky or is he just optimistic? Curious about that and I'm also considering getting another one.

Chris.

On a long run in mine I could get 32MPG,short runs or lots of on-off throtlle then 26MPG. Driven very gently I suspect you could touch 40, not something I'd suggest was the norm though!

What's the range like on the 944's? I suspect the 924S despite having the proper (thirstier) engine still the VW sized tank biggrin

....it would empty a tank in less than 200 miles on the motorway got fed up with the idea of having to stop and fill up before I'd driven home to the westcountry from Essex. Didn't seem to be quite in keeping with the GT nature of the car TBH.

Had a 2.7 Lux eight years ago which averaged 28 mpg. Now have the S2 which averaged 26 mpg on normal fuel, but now averages 28 - 29 mpg with Shell V-Power. But I drive like a vicar, so you need to ask someone who drives more normally.

Got 27 mpg out of my 2.7 lux some years ago, and I drove normally, (ie 85 on motorways and enthusiastically elsewhere, when possible (and safe))

Gah! Keep thinking about buying one of these again!

What are peoples views on the age old 924S Vs 944 8v debate? Is it as simple as it seems - go for the same engine in a smaller, lighter, cheaper car? The only things I prefer on the basic 944 are the styling and the AC on lux cars. Am I right in thinking the '44 is significantly bigger? I know theres quite a big difference in weight (think it's over a quarter of a ton between a 924S and a 2.7 lux eek) Does the load area behind the seats change at all?
