The other evening I was out in the Griff to look at a house with the g/friend. Stopped and filled up with Tesco 99. All was well and went to see the house no problem.

Came out of the house got in the car turned on ignition, waited to hear the fuel pump start up and instead all I could hear was this nasty loud groaning noise came from the rear of the car. Wasn't a grinding noise but it wasn't the usual whirr. Loud enough for my girlfriend to ask - "what's that?"

The car started but it was really lumpy and didn't idle smoothly. However once under way things were fine. Happened again later in the evening but yesterday everything was back to normal.

Anyone had this before? Is it likely the fuel pump is about to pack up or could it be something else - fuel venting? I've heard mention of the carbon can might this be related?

Car is a 96 500 serp.

Thanks

Colin

Sounds like (sorry) the fuel pump is on the way out.
