What are these like to drive? I've had a 993 Turbo and it's built like a tank with the added piece of mind of 4wd.
However, the rarity of the 3.6 964 (less than 50) is itching away at me.
1. Are they built as well?
2. Servicing costs are bound to be higher due to older technology-is this correct?
3. Depreciation-will this ever been an issue if it's a tip top minter with fpsh? Will they be as strong as the 964 RS for example and if not why if your opinion?
4.Anything to watch for on them?
thanks

Hi Alistair,
In answer to you questions in the order of appearance.
1. Are they built well. If you are impressed with the 993 TT then you will be very impressed with the 964 3.6. From the words of a very senior chap at the Porsche factory the 964 3.6 was the last of the proper built Porsche Turbo's.
2. Servicing costs likely to be similar if not slightly cheaper.
3. Depreciation. Only 42 UK supplied RHD cars supplied. How many left and how many real nice cars.
4. Like any Porsche make sure that you buy the best that money can buy.
Here are some pictures of mine

I am looking at buying a 993 GT2 so if you are interested send me a PM,
cheers Graeme

Maybe slightly more expensive to service than 993 as 964 has manual tappets which are costly to adjust (993 hydraulic).
Value wise, rare as stated, but Turbo cars rarely seem to be worth too much without race heritage which is why they are likely to under perform RS in the appreciation stakes.
Great cars with real characer, personally I would consider a late T2 3.3, these go for less £££ and are more tuneable....or go nuts and get the ultra desirabe Turbo S

Here's another: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1994-Porsche-911-3-6-Turbo-R...
Go and drive them. If it is a fun weekend car, I dont think there is much that will better them. There really is not much between a 3.3 with a 1 bar spring and a 3.6, except the 3.6 costs a lot more (only because there are much fewer). If you have the cash and you can find one, i'm sure you'll love the 3.6, but you'll spend a long time looking. There are much more 3.3's and plenty of good ones if you look. The 3.3 is a much better engine, but only worth it if you plan to mod. I would not mod a 3.6 as they are too rare and you'd lose too much cash as a result. I'm sure you can get 600+ bhp from a 3.3

I owned a 964 T2 for 5 years - Awesome car, supplied by Paragon. No issues only routine maintenance.
Until the M25 incident at 40MPH...
Now have a 993tt - Additional 100BHP most impressive
BTW - The main difference between the 3.3 and the 3.6 is the former has 1 BIG turbo, the latter has 2 smaller ones.
