My brake warning lights only work intermittently. Sometimes they come on when I'm driving and when I play with the hand brake they go off. Then other times they won't work at all. There is no loss of fluid. Can someone tell me how to access the brake light switch, so I can check it for bad connections. CRAIG

Sorry. I meant the hand brake switch. In the bible, it describes it as inside the car next to the transmission tunnel. I've looked but I can't see it.

Thats right, two ways in......

T bone out, and there should be a removable cover around the gear lever to aide access.
Or from underneath , hands like Fagan or full exhaust off.
Either way aint easy....

I notice that Demon Tweeks do a hydraulic handbrake kit.
clicky
Have a look while you are in there to see if it could fit.
Would this be road legal, seperate emergency brake and all that? This is listed in the race mods, not road mods section.
My handbrake actually works well, but I hear that this is uncommon. When 'normal' service is resumed, I want to be ready with a permenant fix.
Anyone done this already?

The handbrake kit looks interesting. Not to expensive either. Don't know about the legality of it. My handbrake works ok, but needs a good tug to get it onto the last click which is the only one that will lock the wheels. I havn't tried adjusting it.
I would put money on Griff handbrakes being better than E39 BMWs though!

The handbrake *must* be mechanically actuated to be road legal.
