I think you buy a Rord Sierra, give it to them and £6995 and they give it back with the body on, but then you got to sort out glass, wheels, interior, exterior trims, spraying yourself. Not bad still when you've finished. I reckon you could get yourself a great looking example built for about £16K.

You give THEM the sierra? why? you wouldn't do that with a cobra. So do they build the chassis up? Why can't we do it and save money? I agree that it will be a great car for "only" 16k, but I'd rather be more involved in the build and have a great build for even less.Bargain if you ask me.
Well I know some kitcar makers like their first examples to be factory built so that when they're at shows and are the first cars, people dont see any shoddily built cars, not that they would necessarily be shoddy. I know they're doing that at DNA with the 360 spyder replica, and they did that with my Veranti when it was built as it was one of the first 2 customers cars built. Its always worth enquiring about to do your own though, it was just thats only how they said you went about it at Stoneleigh.
As I understand it the car retains the Sierra floorpan and has the new body dropped onto it. The reason that they are asking for the car is so that they can carry out the required structural floorpan modifications to ensure that the welding is carried out to the required standard. The remaining Sierra structural parts would almost certainly need to be jigged prior to the welding being done and I suspect this is the reason that they require the car, making sure that it is properly squared up prior to welding.

the fact it's on the sierra floorpan and not a bospoke chassis like a cobra or viper rep I was considering does make me wonder, I'll wait for a bit more press info I think on this one.

Would this kit based on a xr 4x4 out handle a real mustang?
I used to own a 71 mustang and the handling was a bit.... well like an aircraft carrier really to be honest. But I have never been lucky enough to drive a properly tuned one.
Would a cosworth or xr based kit do the business?
And... wouldn't using the complete lower half of the sierra avoid the Q plate?
2.9 granada cosworth power plant possibly?

It would kind of just be wrong to have a 4x4 mustang... a nicely powered rwd sierra would be good. Theres no point in a mustang unless you can hang its ass end out!!! Cant really use a cossie cos they're a little bit on the collectable side themselves, not to mention they look good enough as they are. Apart from the xr4i did they do any other V6's?

I suppose a twin cam might be passable though if fitted with the right bits and bobs to get the HP up.
Went to a breakers in Bolton the other week and was offered a nice granada TC for £200 with all the ancillaries, they started it up with a booster and just as I was about to put my hand in my pocket for my wallet the price jumped to £300, it was then ragged off down the yard, spun around at the end of the yard and ragged back. I started to walk away at that point, turned back only to see the claws of the crane crush the front end in a big cloud of steam... never will i set foot in that yard again no matter how desperate.

If you were doing that plus uprating the brakes, suspension etc (well you'd hardly take a 1.6 pinto out and leave it standard would you?) then how much cheaper than a Mustang would this be?
