Think i'll be adding a couple of tasteful viper stripes to the beast for this year's pilgrimage. Has anyone done this before? I'm a bit worried about my Chim's paint, it seems very soft and prone to damage and I just want to check i'm not about to damage it before I go ahead. Obviously i'd use a hairdryer to remove them afterwards.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

No need to worry, as long as the paint is clean and properly waxed. I sticker my car up every year with no problems at all.

It's worth repeating that to take them off, make sure that you either leave the car out in the sun for a while, or heat the vinyls with a hairdryer. they peal off a lot more easily and you leave less glue behind to remove.

Last year's efforts:

Morebeanz, that looks fantastic..

Looking to do something myself (more le mans type though) But with your effort, it looks like I may have to make even more of an effort to stand out..

Hey...Love the stripes. Could you tell me where you got them from? Cheers.

Make sure you allow plenty of time to stick 'em on, and get a mate to help smile

E2, how did you get them under the badge? Are they hard to fit? I guess you use a spray so you can slide the stripes around before you squeegy them?

Hi Al.
My badge is stuck on with double-sided tape, but only at the midle, so the stripe can slide under the edges. The badge on the grey chim was bolted on, so he simply took it off whilst we fitted the stripes.

The guidelines say to wet the car and the back, i.e. sticky side, of the stripe with soapy water. We actually used Maguires Quick Detailer, which worked well (once we got the hang of it!) Place a strip of wide masking tape down the centre of the bonnet as a guide, and then using the detailer, it was easy to slide the strip in to place alongside the masking tape. The natural curves at the bottom of the bonnet draw the stripes together a bit, and on the boot we had to make a vertical cut in the stripe, and over lap each side slightly.

Hope this helps
