Never thought I'd see the day, especially from the EVO boys.

It's in big letters inside so yeah, a cursory flick through should save you a bit of cash wink

I'd still have the 997C4S...it's so much more subtle aesthetically.

Think what did it for me is the lap time around the track - faster than a 997 GT3? and a Gallardo. A Koenigsegg for god sake! Must be some car, lucky for those who have the orders. We all expected the 911 to slip into second place when the AMv8 came along but hell this time it looks like in performance terms anyway, it'll have too. I'm a Porsche man myself and it makes it more weird when i think about it and i want an R8 instead of a 997. my opinion anyway. Now think when the V10 version comes out- haha,....people have there own views on the looks/image but i definitely like it. Only downside seems the bootspace and range. Waiting for a riposte...

I'd have the Vantage.

I couldn't have an R8, knowing I could be driving a used Gallardo with the same money.

wow. so someone finally did it. it was interesting the number of 911 fans, who when it was announced a while back said; no chance, audi make dull lifeless understeering cars. LOL. at least the prospect of a 5l v10 in one will mean porsche will need to pull the stops out on the next generation and stop playing it safe smile

Couldn't agree more. Well I probably could actually.

Far too many people base their car opinions on the words of journalists.

To be fair to Evo, they have a large and diverse readership. To have yet another 911-wins-again article. Well, you can only have so many of those. Can't you? hehe

Good luck to those buying the R8. I hope it's everything you want it to be. I however, have not the slightest urge to swap. If I were in the market for an £80-90k 2dr car I might test drive it. And then buy a Gallardo smile

I don't doubt the EVO boys' verdict. It's similar to what the German mags came up with. The only issue I have with the R8 is that it leaves me as cold as a Skoda Fabia. The Gallardo SL however...

I saw half a dozen or so R8's at an airfield Audi (amongst others) use to store their fleet of cars. It looked over-styled and out of proportion in the flesh.

It did look quite compact and chuckable though.

Given Porsche's control over VAG it is likely to be the last supercar Audi build so give'em their 15 minutes.....

Whenever I hear this kind of talk i.e another Porsche beater, it kind of reinforce how great Porsche is as a brand is... So what they are really saying is that Porsche is the benchmark...

How many times have we heard the words...THIS CARS IS GOING TO BE A PORSCHE BEATER.

It takes more than a new car that is faster to be a porsche beater it has to have the whole package.

Spend some time in one and then you'll know what I mean.

Also when they say Porsche beater which model are they aiming at
C2, C4, GT3, GT2 RSs...?

Price / performance / configuration suggests the C4S is the target...............

The pre-eminence of the 911 for so long is an amazing record, I for one welcome the fact someone has come up with something that seriously challenges it, and some believe better it in some depts. It certainly looks more dramatic and exciting to me. So well done Audi.

A shame that other Porsche fans can't believe there may actually be alternatives (although agree it is £10k over-priced)

But unfortunately, in practice it trashes the 997 GT3 times on the track..............
