There is a strange whiny noise coming from the engine when using the accelerator (fine on idle), sounds like being in a rally car (if you know what I mean), also had an ECU warning 4 pop up twice, and while stationary the revs dropped to 400 then jumped up to 1500 then back to 1000.

Is it just me but when the car goes into the dealer it seems to come back with all new faults... frown

Someimes all the prodding around in the engine bay causes other connections to play up - most dealers don't deliberately cause problems!

I have the odd oil leek on the garage floor, but would not require the engine to be taken out.
The speed 6 is a racing engine, and is bound to expell some oil some where.
Mind you I have had my engine rebuilt and converted from 3.6L to 4.0L, but still have the odd oil leek on
the garage floor. But I ain't going to have the engine out cos of that. Live with it.

They shouldn't leak/drip if all the seals are doing their job. My garage floor is as dry as a bone at the moment (famous last words).

They do tend to drip from the oil sender, mine has in the past. Also, I've noticed a bit of moistness around one of the pipes that goes from the oil tank to the engine - maybe check things like this.

I had the rear gearbox oil seal changed recently (under warranty, while clutch was being done). It wasn't dripping, but it was moist/leaking slightly. Another place to check.

Worst leak is the clutch slave cylinder...

The car only went in for an MOT and for them to check a slight hesitation on acceleration, I presume the dealer saw a worse problem than the few drops on the drive I saw to take the engine out. It’s under warrantee so didn’t see a problem.

Steve, does the whiney noise come from the passenger seat. boxedin

Ian,
The S6 should be bone dry externally. The race engine thing would be more of a reason to be that way rather than an excuse for it leaking. wink

4.0 should be loosening up nicely now I would expect? Out of interest, what did your insurer have to say about the upgrade??

There should be zero oil leaks. As you have just your engine put back in, it should be fixed FOC by whoever did it.

phone them up and take it back. explain your fustrations and ask them not if they agree but rather how long will it take them to put it right and what can you borrow off them in the meantime to keep you on the road. Good luck

The leak and gear selection could be linked. Has the clutch being replaced? (or more precisely the slave cylinder?).

No still on the original clutch etc ... Another thing to mention to the dealer on Tuesday.

could you get into any other gears? Do you still have an oil leak? Is it under the gearbox? Is your clutch/brake fluid reservoir(same thing) behind the pedal box slightly low? Is your handbrake warning light on? Any of the above it could be your clutch slave cylinder seals about to go. Get it checked asap or you may get stranded. Good luck. cheers, Whitey.

Err, hmmm, Yeh, seem to remember Triumph and BSA saying that sort of thing, then along came the Japs with REAL power and ZERO leaks.
It shouldn't leak anything.
As for the dealer at £75 plus an hour, makes me phuckin' fume! Is there no such thing as service these days? Get the tosser to put it right.
