having had 2 964's I'm in the market for something a little quicker!! any thoughts on whether a 965 or 930 turbo would be better.... both have the same 3300 cc engine only the 965's are a little dearer... any advice?

Same engine yes, one has 300bhp the T2 has 320bhp, so slightly quicker.
Had both.
The 930 will probably be more of a classic longterm, but does not have the benefit of ABS/Power steering etc etc

I had the same dilemma just over a year ago and with a £20k budget for a weekend car, went for a LHD 3.3 965. They are a far more modern car than the 930 and IMO better looking than the 930 - although I still love 930s!

Re. a 930 being more of a classic, I disagree as 965s in both forms are far rarer than 930s. The 3.6 version is already making serious money, although good cars of any type will always be worth more

Both are expensive to maintain (£3k per year) and are less lithe than an n/a car but ultimately that turbo kick is something else! I think the wide body 964s are the best looking 911s full stop, especially with Speedlines!

Ultimately it depends on what you want to do with the car and how much you want to spend. What's your budget?

thanks fellas... my budget is a maximum of about £25k for the 965 or 17.5K for the 930...

I does seem that te 965s are far more rare and can often vary considerably in price (ive sseen them in the high 30's!!) any idea why (or is it just the 3600 vs 3300?

965s vary from around £17k for a 3.3 left hooker to around £40k for a low mileage 3.6 - they're were only c.40 RHD 3.6 so they really command a premium.

There's a very nice 42k mile 3.3 with Speedlines (the 18" wheels from the 3.6 and worth around £2k in top condition) in the classifieds:

Don't know if it's still for sale but if it is I would have thought you could get it for nearer your £25k budget or buy it at £27k and sell me the Speedlines! The only think that may put you off is that it is red which is a less popular colour for 965s than for 930s.

The 3.6 is rarer, around 1000 made worldwide. 4% UK?
4000 of 3.3, still very rare.

3.6 very expensive c.£40K but includes newer, larger engine, Speedline wheels, lower suspension, and shaped rear bumper. Rarety and purity (ie. few owners will modify them) ensure will hold value.
3.3 cheaper (good value at moment) low to high £20K's. More commonly modified to bring to 3.6 spec, wheels, suspension, performance.

930 is purer driving: no aircon (mainly goes wrong with 964's anyway), no PAS = nicer feel, harsher suspension: personal preference, noisier.

But there again, I've made my 965 harder, faster, and noisier!!!

All comes down to cash and condition.... have fun looking for one :-)

PS: Yes, I'd agree, not cheap to run, double your budget compared to a non-turbo 911.
PPS: Turbo boost is addictive, but lower torque at low revs. Requires different driving style than NA due to lower torque at low revs.
