I am looking at buying a 2005 T350 and was wondering if the 'wear & tear' warranty is worthwhile at £1400. Its the million dollar question I know! Get it and the car does'nt miss a beat, don't get it and.....boom, engine rebuild that will be £5k please!!! The real question is, how reliable is a 2005 car?

The answer to how relaible the car is can be an open one.

How well has it been looked after and serviced are the two biggest influencing factors IMHO.

A 2005 car (if it was built then rather than registered then) should be well built as it was car built when the factory were still on a bit of a high with the workers generally in good spirits. A 2006 car is another thing, with some I have seen, and it may not be hugely representative, showing signs of IDGAS assembly.

The warranty depends on how risk averse you are but I understand that your post was possibly to allow you to risk assess.

We have two 2005 cars in our stable, non of which has required work of any significance nor do I envisage any (big fate tempt maybe).

They both should have a year each of factory warranty left - maybe they dont. I will not be looking to wrap any money up in a warranty for either car should the factory warranty expire, BUT, and its a big BUT. I know how well the cars have been looked after.

Hope this hepls a little.

I think it is worth it. I had well over the cost on new parts/fitting this past year. Mine goes in for its MOT/service/new warranty check/take out on Tuesday.

I fully understand why some think not. It does help to have a helpful local dealer in case of problems though - warranty or not.

Depending how many mile it’s done I would say yes, remember it’s not just the engine going bang, even the small things can cost a small fortune to fix.
