MX-5 Immobiliser/key fob

Hello all.

I've just bought a 1995 MX-5 (which is great). The car is fitted with an immobiliser which has a watch battery type thing to disarm it. The previous owner kept this watch battery type thing loose in the cubby hole on the centre console.

It's a sure fire fact that I will lose this very soon.

My question is, how do I get a key fob that can incorporate this thing? I know they exist.

Can anyone help? I feel sure that other owners must have been faced with the same situation in the past...

Ah you have the mazda finish line immobliser same as me by the sound of it . i had an old bike immobiliser sat in the garage so used the fobs from that .
You can get these as replacements just need to programme them in .

Right ummm ....
Hold the fob onto the doodah while switching ignition full on , wait and it will do i think a long beep , get your new key and touch and holfd that on the doodah it will beep 3 times when it has coded , turn off ignition and try it .

This all sounds good, but what if your father in law while you're away loses the fob from the flimsy holder. Am I screwed? Any suggestions?

Yes. If you can't figure out how to disable the immobiliser yourself, get hold of an auto-electrician to do it. Immobilisers can be had for as little as £20 brand new so fit one that doesn't have the risk of this happening again.
