I was at Racing Green the other week, I was looking at all the TVR's there and commented to the the Top Man there - well I think he was - that it just amazed me why a company that makes such fantastic cars went to the pan. His answer surprised, he said that he (and other dealers) place a lot of blame on the PH forum, lots of negative comments and scare stories about reliability, especially the early S6 engine, which he reckons has now been largely sorted. Anyway, it got me thking that he may well be right, and that this forum is a lot more influential than we think. 90% of the threads on our Cerbera forum are negative because by definition you don't come on here to say "Went for a drive today and nothing happened" ! so all prospective Cerb owners see is doom and gloom, so I reckon a Good News thread isn't a bad idea. Mind you this is coming from the man who got all excited about his new Trolley Jack! - It's frigging gorgeous by the way
So i/we may well get the Pi$$ taken for writing "Went for a drive today and nothing broke", but it's worth a try, so here we are...........
I drove to London yesterday, horrible stop start traffic jams coming off the Chiswick flyover - over an hour to cover 2 miles. Parked the car overnight, it rained all night, started first time this morning, drove back through London, more stop start traffic, very heavy rain on the M4, everything worked, no problems at all, and arrived back about an hour ago, all very routine stuff.

Just drove to Paris and back with 60 cars (2 other Cerbs & T350) in under 12 hours.
Cerby peformed like the true supercar he is and was congratulated on the ferocious note (and 'flames') coming from the rear end.
Was asked 'if you didn't have the Cerb, what car would you have from this car-park?' - answer - 'if I didn't have this Cerb, I'd buy another one'

Mmmmm! that trolley jack is nice thou!
totally useless though cause its far too clean and nice to get dirty,
But on a serious note i totally agree,90% of posts are doom n gloom and it almost put me off buying one! so how many people have got on a forum and not bought the car of thier dreams because of all the negative posts they read? Seen quite a few pop up on here in the last 3 months asking advice on buying a cerb! but not that many come back saying "bought one".

I did the same and had the 'fear' that I'd buy a dog. But, if you go in with your eyes open and expect the worst you should be Pleasantly surprised.
On a positive note though, some of the seemingly negative posts on servicing, reliability etc could be positive for the marques – bear with me – if someone with Mondeo money thinks about buying a TVR and is put off by seemingly expensive running costs, that’s a good thing, right?
Meaning that the cars only get bought by people that are prepared to maintain them in tipity-tip-top condition.
Thus, they’re not murdered by the Corsaxo crew and left for dead when the first service arrives.
Mines not for sale – I love it.

Perversely, treating that as "good news" perpetuates the view.2 sMoKiN bArReLs said:

What a load of crap! TVR have unfortunately had a reputation for being unreliable for years, even my father, now in his 60s regularly comments of TVRs being as unreliable as people suggest, mainly I guess because my AJP V8 is always being 'fettled' to correct one problem or another! The S6 was plagued with problems, whether those have been fixed is either here nor there, the damage was done.
I think anyone who buys a TVR goes into ownership with their eyes wide open, or have so much money they don't care!

The problem with my family and friends is they are unable to comprehend that a car going to the menders for fettling ]
isnt always broken
Loaded Mrs Fubes and the 2 Fubelings in the car last night (plenty of room, could have got the dog in there too
), went out for dinner. Got back to the car park to find several admirers near the car. It was chucking it down. Started on the button and transported The Fubes safely home in wet conditions. Perfect family car

Okay on a Good News bent, The TVRCC sprinting guys do an excellent job of raising the TVR profile, I believe I am right in saying that we are now one of the largest single make sprinting and Hillclimbing championship in the UK, regularly putting 20+ car's into events, and that's got to be Good News.
I adore TVRs, it's not all roses, but the effort definatly had it's benefits!
You meet great people, on PH as well as face-to-face, there's a fantastic feeling of comaraderie real British Spirit kind of stuff, all focused around the love of a quirky English car maker. If that's not you kind of thing, this may be more 'up your street': http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a...

Never had a quibble with my TVRs or any that I know of owned by friends, including many a S6 owner, never met one that didn't have his eyes wide open to be honest. I think it's a bit thin and lame to blame PH for TVRs demise. Don't be surprised it is a common belief held by many within the car club as well. It is smoke and mirrors straight out of the new labour spin handbook - deflect criticism and blame someone else and before you know it it will become the 'truth'.
What that message does say to me is in the age of the interweb where information is power and buyers are better informed, TVR could and would not raise their game, pure and simple.
I'm sure they would have preferred it if all new owners turned up clueless and handed over their hard earned regardless, but the worlds moved on a tad, apparently much to TVR managements surprise

What a load of cock. PH was around long before Racing Green were a TVR dealership and so was the Speed 6. An internet forum was not at fault, the product was. Usual dealer/salesman bullshit.

I know a few TVR dealers.
Their opinion is that the cars were unreliable, difficult to get parts for and the back up from he manufacturer was worst than non existant.
Engines going POP at low mileages, poor warranty or goodwill support, chassis that were rotted out by the 1st MOT.
but I am sure that the ramblings of a few PHers was the real reason that the russian failed.
afterall he was such a nice chap with a proven track record of sucessfully running a car manufacturer.
Maybe this should be a warning to all other car manufacturers.
Upset a PHer ay your peril!!
POWER TO THE PHers!

Just after I bought mine I went to my local TVR dealer. It seemed that I was more aware of what was happening at TVR than they were. I'd also say that in the current climate, there's probably quite a few dealers who have lost money or been let down in some way, so could well have negative feelings.
Good news. I can leave mine two weeks without playing and it starts first time
None of my other vehicles do this, in fact my reliable japanese motorbike doesn't like not being used.

Bet its a kawasaki!Good news. I can leave mine two weeks without playing and it starts first time
None of my other vehicles do this, in fact my reliable japanese motorbike doesn't like not being used.My speed 6 is fantastic. However, if there is so much intellect on this forum has anyone considered getting it together and building a new marque? My philosophy is don't knock it if you can't do it yourself! There are plenty of people on here who seem to know what they want. Power of dreams and all that!
