T5 quickshift kit
Discussion
I see that Burton have just introduced a quickshift kit for the T5 gearbox. They are aiming it at the 2wd Cossie. It's not on their website yet, but on page 28 of the June edition of track and race cars magazine.
I wonder if it would work in a Griff with the TVR linkage.
I don’t know a great deal about gearboxes and even less about quickshifts. Are they just to shorten the throw of the lever, or do they actually speed the gearshift in another way.
Would I gain much if it could be made to fit? The box always feels as though it just does not want to be hurried. Not knowing where the hold up is I don’t know if this would do any good.
So why is the T5 a slow shifter compared to my other car? That’s as quick as the hand can move.

The TVR linkage already shortens the throw so probably a non starter, changing the oil to the castrol semi synthetic 75W-90 generally helps
also the internal selector mech can be modified to provide a slicker change, means dropping the box out tho'

Hi Matt.also the internal selector mech can be modified to provide a slicker change, means dropping the box out tho'

I'll change the oil.
My box is in good condition so I won't pull it apart just now. The shifts no worse than any other Griff, It's just not as fast as my other car.
When it finally does need doing, what is this modification? How do I do it?
Thanks
Fester
To provide a slicker gear shift on the T5 you have to get the box out of the car and then remove the tail-casing so you can then remove the lid.
The shift mech is held inside the lid and when the box is new the 'gates' the selector pins on the shift rod has to pass through, are all sharp edges so the pin has to line up exactly to allow a shift.
Its this lining up which slows the shift down, you'll generally find an T5 box which has had a bit of use has a sweeter shift because the sharp edges on the gates have all been knocked off.
So carefully chamfer the edges of the gates on the selector forks and in the lid and you'll have a much easier and slicker gear shift.
