An 'A' road local to me has been made a 20mph zone rolleyes

I object to this for various reasons (it's shit for a start!)

1) Is it legal? As a major artery is it exempt from reduction?

2) Who do I bother. I'm sure this is local council driven (oh the irony) but as an 'A' road isn't it governed by my County Council?

3) Will someone nuke Tameside Council ('an excellent council' - their words on every bleedin' municipal vehicle. Can you imagine how steamy my micturation is?). I will pay cash and ask no questions.

TIA

If it's a trunk road then it's the responsibility of the Highways Agency.

If it's a non-trunk road (an A-road could be either trunk or non-trunk) then it's the County Council, unless you are in a metropolitan borough or a few other cases, but normally it's the county council in England and Wales.

Any speed limit is legal on any A-road provided that the highway authority, as above, have followed the correct statutory procedure to make the necessary Traffic Regulation Order.

Tameside? Ist not that the one which refused to mend a road full of potholes for several years despite umpteen requests from those living on that road because

"the potholes provided natural speed humps"

per the councillor as quoted in Manchester press?

Mad Doc posted up story und safespeed poster called Callums Mum lost her son when he fell off bike on one of those potholes rolleyes

Ja .. ist nice to know they are "excellent" Perhaps some one should tell them that self praise ist no praise at all und others judge according to how they perform und actually do

Ist also good to know they have their priorities "right" rolleyes on road "safety" bangheadfurious

Ooh, that's a cracker. laugh

....and I quite agree with the rest of what you said. The attitude of many local authorities to road maintenance, and traffic calming or 'Traffic Management' is a disgrace.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

The 'excellent' tag is not self praise - they won it fair and square. Probably from a fairground with a goldfish.

And the concillor to whom you refer......our glorious leader for the last 30ish years...take a bow Councillor Oldham otherwise known as 'der fuhrer' - a neo stalinist and delusionist par excellence. As leader of the Labour group it's a job-for-life aka dictatorship in this former textile-medium industry area.

They probably spent your money on catchy "corporate" logo rolleyes

Has as much substance as normal droppings from a seagull manager. rolleyes in reality.

I used to giggle at councils proclaiming to be "nuclear free zones" Look if the National Grid has electricity supplied by nuclear energy stations - then not entirely "nuclear free zone" und still getting some fall out should there be any pollution in atmosphere from them anyway rolleyes

Another one ist "Caring for the Community" - so that's scratchchin what they call fortnightly collections of waste, green taxes, painting suicidal cycle lanes .. und other naff pee-cee .. elf und safe tea publications these days rolleyes

But New or rather Old Labour con-cillors have their heads so far up their acensoreds that all they spout ist censored or have we found the mystery Raspeberry Blowers wink
