Clutch Problem

After playing about under the S today, I looked out of the garage for the so called decent weather we were going to get yesterday, it hadn't arrived. Sod it ,put the roof on and went for a run,heading towards the woodhead pass I got to some traffic lights started off, went for 2nd gear and the clutch was solid, coasted to a stop with no drive lifted the bonnet and could see immediately that the slave pushrod was fully extended. After a bit of investigating and some fiddling I manged to "wiggle" the opeating arm sort of side to side with a screwdriver and it clicked back to its normal position.Problem is I don't know why it did it and I dont want it to repeat so I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen , its almost as though the arm was catching on something. Is there anything in that area that can work loose? The problem was definately on the arm, not the Hydraulics (I dropped the fluid from the slave first to see if it went back and it didn't have any effect).

Hi Ken,
Don't know if this will help but I have just had my slave cylinder to bits to change the seals. When I took the push rod off the ball end was badly grooved corresponding with the edges of the arm it pushes against. I did think at the time that it was affecting the smoothness of operation and I suppose the worst case could be that it would lock. I put out a request on here for the source of these and it seems there are variations as always. To cut along story short it is reassembled at present with a Land Rover push rod which I shortened slightly and is non adjustable. A local engineering shop is manufacturing a replacement for me using the original as a pattern as I would like to retain an adjustment ability. I did hear of someone using a bolt of the correct length with the head rounded !

I think Ill get it off and have a look, I probably have a similar problem looming so may as well try it.I've got a lathe so I should be able to make something up.
