Help!! Car behaving weird
Discussion
For the past month the car takes a good 10 mins to start every morning.
Turn key, fuel pump primes, engine turns over but does not catch.
Sometimes after a few trying of the above procedure it will start, and if I turn it off & restart it will, and work like this all day, even when left for up too 12 hours off.
I have cleaned stepper motor
Changed all spark leads & plugs
Changed both main silver relay in footwell.
We thought it was the starter motor, but it will work all day once I get it started in the morning.
Also it's starting to drop revs when I pull up from speed.
Anyone experienced any of this problem before ???
Is the something that could be stopping the fuel from reaching the banks ?
Air in the fuel tank / system ?
- Block fuel line ?
- Evaporating fuel as hot stop (the night before) ?
HELP!!!

I assume it's cranking over OK, and that the fuel pump is always priming as normal and not acting up in any way.
If so, I suggest you stick a meter / test lamp across the fuel pump and confirm it's powered up while you're cranking. If not, do a continuity check of the ignition signal between the ECU multi-plug and the distributor. There's a dropping resister in series with this (physically at about the point the loom reaches the throttle assembly) which can sometimes break down and interrupt this signal.
Also confirm that the tacho shows the engine cranking over; if not, you may have a fault in the ignition switched circuit, perhaps the steering column multiplug or a corroded connection at the fuse box. Easy enough to trace with a meter once you know what you're looking for.

Yep, I can confirm that when it cranking over there is no change in the tacho.
But on the occasion when it does fire up, the tacho will move.
The funny thing that really confusing me, is that once it's fired up the first tome, it will work faultlessly for the rest of the day or even 2 days.
Real Bummer...Sign

That could be significant. I'd stick a meter/test lamp on the coil +ve and see whether you're getting a switched ignition supply when the problem occurs. It would be quite easy to trace if that's all the problem is.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
