I see our illustrious leader and Geoff are entered for a couple of Swinging Sixties races at Anglesey this weekend. I always assumed it was something to do with the age of the car and not the driver but I suppose I must be wrong.
I am entered in the Northern Saloons races. There are also 2 extras, sports versus saloons at only £75 a pop if you are already entered for another class. That means 2 practice and 2 races on the National circuit on Saturday and 2 x 2 on Sunday on the Coastal circuit, all for the princely sum of £395.
If anyone is interested they may still be taking entries. Try Roz Gunning on 08700-427108.
Don't take this as an ad for someone else's series. It's just that if I can't get to your Challenge races I may as well try to get you to mine.
Should be a good weekend I think, beer new track and all.
Hope it'e not raining though. I don't like the wet!sonar
Best Rgds, Tim.

Rgds Tim.

Weekend went very well. The new layouts are very good. We raced the National on Saturday. Short and sweet with a lot of heavy braking. Suffered from boiling brake fluid during the Friday test on this circuit. It still encompasses "School", the fast right hander at the end of the pit straight but then you come to a dead stop at "Rocket", a 20mph semi hairpin immediately followed by an opening right, short straight and then a sweeping slow in, max acceleration out right hander. Then another heavy brake, downhill and off camber left, then onto the back straight, flat in 4th to another dead stop hairpin and back onto the star/finish straight. Tight little circuit with no real "relaxation" period. Does for brakes and the nearside rear tyre takes a hammering. Best I managed all weekend was a 1m 01s which allowing for the weight of the car and heavy braking areas I thought was respectable.
Coastal circuit sees much higher speeds. From the off you have a fast left hander then short stright to a very cambered sweeping right hand hairpin. Heavy braking into this and max acceleration out. Short straight with long sweeping fast right hander onto the back "straight". This is flat out all the way albeit turning right all the time. Up to about 125mph before a flick into 4th for a slight right hander on the uphill approach to "Rocket" and then down the box to 2nd with very heavy braking for "Rocket" itself. Same as the National then until the off camber left. Approach is slightly slower as you take the left then heavy braking for the "corkscrew", Anglesey's answer to Laguna Seca. Short steep drop to the right, short shift to 3rd followed by "wait for it left", then full bore across the line to complete the lap.
Of the 2 I found the coastal more rewarding, as did most of the other competitors I spoke to. Very fast and also very slow sections. Again the brakes and left rear tyre take a hammering. My rear slicks are shagged, and this from a man who made last years rears last until Mallory this year.
The track was very green though but is seriously smooth at present. They have only had one meeting there before ours and it had rained all last week. We had beautiful weather Friday and Saturday with Sunday overcast but warmish. The track was getting better with each race. The basics are there with the rest of the infrastructure following. There are 2 pit lanes now, the new one is having a full set of garages in the near future. Spectating areas are fairly prominent with large areas of the track covered from each vantage point. All these are in the process of being grassed over and nearly all offer trackside parking in case the weather is a bit iffy.
I would recommend a visit. Plenty of B+Bs and camping for the more hardy amongst us. We will certainly be going back there this year for something, work allowing.
Have a great time at Snetterton and stay lucky.
Best Rgds Tim. smokin

Tim even had time to re-adjust his bonnet pins in the pit lane after the formation laphehe

Tim had a good race,

Old Parky was a demon though.

Forgot the transponder in qualifying and started from the rear in the sports vee saloons, 4th after first lap, then a lovely outbrake into 3rd past an XJS. Then he chased an M3 down and proceeded to harry it for 5 laps or so. driver kept closing the door and eventually after some trading of paint geoff spun when the M3 driver tightened his line.

And all this when Tim was Sithing through the field for the win. Geoff recovered and took 3rd. morally it should have been a second though

Inspired.

Neil.

It wasn't the bonnet pins Neil, I was checking that I had any fan belts left on as the charging light came on during the green flag lap. We had the alternator seize in the form up lane. Freed it off but had to fit oversize belts sharpish.
I was a bit taken aback that the buggers started the race without me though. Bad form I thought.
Still, nice to win one again. I now know what the magic formula is. I have twice the power, they have twice the weight. Works a treat.
How did Parky do in the SvS race on Sunday. He was down for a win as well I thought.
Rgds Tim.

I believe you Tim! (tongue in cheek)

I left early to collect his car on Sunday, he texted me later. Fuel pump expired on lap 3 so he retired. The M3 driver took the win.
