S2 minor refurb
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm currently carrying out a minor refurb on my S2 and I'm looking for a little advice...........
1) My wheels look terrible as the lacquer has deteriorated and I'd like to get them refurbished (or do it myself if possible.) What's the best way and if I have to get someone else to do it could anybody recommend anyone in the edinburgh area?
2) The dash-light switch (rotary) is not working and I need a new one (where from and how much?)
3) Best coating for a rusty chassis. I've tried Hammerite but it didn't last long so I'm looking for something a little more permanent.
Cheers Mikee

Sounds like it may be end up more than minor... Anyway, I had the same prob with wheels on a Trans-Am I owned. I tried various options, but I found the best way was to use very fine grade wet and dry paper to get the lacquer and corrosion off. After that its a matter of using finer and finer grade abrasive, finishing off with cutting compound, T-Cut, then polishing with a proprietory ally cleaner. A mop on a drill speeds up the process somewhat.
You then have to decide whether to re-laquer, or just polish and wax them. As my car was only out in the sun, I went the wax polish route.
You need to get all the loose stuff off your chassis before you do anything else. Then Hammerite and finish of with a good coating of Waxoyl. Find an old wooly hat, unless you like the greebo waxoyl slicked hair look...
