Hey guys,

I've been lurking around here for the past few days, I am considering buying an M3 CSL or RS6 but just noticed that you can also get 996 C2 for similar money.....so...

I have a few questions regarding the 996 and would like some advice please.

What can I expect to get for about £31k-ish?

Are there any buyers guides around?

What are general running costs like?

How reliable are they?

Are there specific problems associated with these cars( I'm not planning on modding it or adding more power)?

If so what are they, how much are these issues to fix and can they be done via the warranty?

How long is the manufactures warranty and how much is an after market warranty?

Are there specific things I need to look out for whilst looking/test driving the 996 other then normal things with any used car?

How does the 996 c2 handle, I am coming from a Lotus Elise S2 111r so am not too used to electronic gadgetry kicking in all the time, and handling is key to me, more so then outright power?

Thanks in advance, I know this is allot of questions....

PS the other cars i am considering are the Audi RS6 and M3 CSL so have posted the equivalent questions on the other boards....

Cheers!!!!

PM me, I'll send you a buyers guide, model history and technical guide that I co-wrote for the Porsche Club GB. It should help clear things up.

I was about to make a very similar post myself.

After 4 years of running, sensible company cars I’m craving that hit that only a sports car can give.

For me the only choice is do I buy a 966 or stick with company cars and bag a BMW 320D coupe or the like.

My budget is around £26K. I would like a car that is fit enough to be an everyday driver, even if that’s not strictly the case.

I guess as well as what to lookout for I would like to know what they are like to live with. Can it swallow a weeks worth of luggage or baby seat? And what’s the general preference with the 2wd V’s 4wd?

Gents - suggest you try a forum search. There has been lots said on here in the time I've frequented this place that will "answer" your questions, other posters (myself included) have asked similar questions several times over and recived lots of good advice (and some bollox!) wink

Or alternatively , you could have one like this ..

... With the proper colour combo for a rainforest green 996.

It may even come in slightly under budget

Bravo - nice car, and if you get a better car for the money just because its green then fine.

In case you hadn't picked up the nuance here, that car is a 'facelift' '02 car which will have the more powerful 3.6 engine, and if you can get it, you should do so.
