Anyone know why the Mclaren victory at Monaco is being 'investigated'?

FIA said:
The FIA has launched an investigation into incidents involving the McLaren Mercedes team at the 2007 Monaco Grand Prix in light of a possible breach of the International Sporting Code.

The relevant evidence is under review and a further announcement will be made in due course.
What could they have done?

I think it might be about team orders.

For the last couple of year Monaco has been won from Pole position so it was hardly a blatany breach of regs.

Hamilton was still pushing hard at the end.

Although I have no real problem with team orders (they have been part and parcel of motor racing since the sport began), they are now officially "illegal" in F1 (thanks to McLaren and Ferrari antics a few years ago).

By Ron Dennis acknowledging that Alonso and Hamilton were told to "hold station" after the last pit stops, he could be seen to have breached the rules.

Ii guess it is becuase Ron Dennis has very openly admitted that they decided in advance who was going to win it. He even went as far as to say that if the saftey car came out then lewis would win it!

I think he probably should have kept quiet about the whole thing, but then he was given a load of grief about not letting lewis race for the win so I suspect was just trying to explain..

Actually from the Autosport article it seems that criticisms came from the British media... Which led the FIA to step in

I don't think he did. People are reading a lot more into what Ron has said than he actually did.

It looks as though the British media are a bit pissed off that Hamilton didn't get the chance to race Alonso. Although, in my opinion, Alonso could have upped his pace at any time, and had both Alonso and Hamilton truly 'raced' each other, Hamilton would have been the more likely to make a race-ending mistake. He made a few mistakes (Rascasse, and before Loewes when his right front hit the barrier) that he got away with due to them easing off. If they had been at 10/10ths then him rubbing the barrier just before Loewes would probably have damaged his steering.

So, for once, no need for accusations of FIA/ferrari bias!

Anyway, from Yahoo

Yahoo UK said:
British newspapers felt Hamilton had been let down.

"Hamilton ordered to hand Alonso victory," declared the Daily Telegraph in a headline.

"Hamilton is told to let Alonso win," agreed the Daily Mail.

It's all media led bollox. I'm actually disgusted by the comments I've heard and read from people who are obviously getting confused with what the hacks are making up in their constant love-in and what is actually true. People actually starting to give Lewis a hard time when it's nothing to do with him. He's doing nothing more or less than any other professional driver, it's just the media placing him on a pedestal.

As for the McLaren investigation. I think the FIA are just using it for more air time to sell more tickets for the upcoming British GP or get extra TV coverage, or for Bernie to charge more for advertising.

I'm interested to hear your position on this... I don't think anything will come of it. For two reasons, firstly I don't think there were any team orders in play, and secondly even if there were I think the FIA would find it very difficult to prove... Actually there is a third consideration, it appears that the FIA is only responding to the bleating of a few journalists, so no teams have lodged protests methinks... Having said that what if it had been a Ferrari one two? I think that every team would have been knocking down the FIA's door and there would be much lighting of bonfires on this hallowed Forum...

DID it really matter?

Third place man was not exactly held up or blocked to ensure Alonso's win.

It he had it would be a different matter, but it was always going to be A MacLaren 1,2

gerr the press stirring again. I bet they dont consider the concequences of their actions. "Why wasn't Hamilton allowed to race" could be turned into "Hamilton stripped of 2nd". The muppets.
