Hi
Whilst polishing under bonnet (it's raining, poor excuse I know!). There are two sensors on teh inlet manifold, one on the right facing upwards (I believe this is the one for the engine management) and one on the left facing forwards, with a single blue wire. I assume this is for the temp gauge? Anyway, this one has an 18.5 ohm resistor in the wire to it, seems not original, any ideas why?

I hate replying when i have two posts together, looks like i have nothing better to do(Emerdale is on !). The resistor is to calibrate the guage and sender, much like when using the spare sender on top(much more reliable, both long term and accuracy), you need a variable resistor to calibrate. Or someone has tried to make the car look as it is running cool !!!
Makes a lot of sense in TVR's to put the sensor in the lower rear engine drain tapping. It is least affected from the exhaust heat there (heat rises) due to the TVR manifold routing as opposed to the original Land Rovers. It is also in a large body of water in the cylinder jacket. The water all around the engine is at different temperatures ~ why is there this obsession that one area is a better measure than another?
