I've never experienced a quiet country drive in my Griffith - what's that like? Is it all downhill with the ignition off?

I know your hubby will hate me for saying it, but pits and paddocks are generally not liked by the ladies. My wife thought it was going to be like Monaco and was seriously disappointed when I went to my first race at Silverstone. And there's a long way down the 'food chain' to somewhere like Lydden.

I hate the High Street. My wife hates Paddocks. There are few women around, and those that do go are usually reading Hello magazine with a big thick coat on.

.. on the other hand my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed the race i took her to last year at Oulton, and hopes to come to some more this summer with me.
Try it, you might like it.

As for your partner wishing to go racing: i say good for him, maybe you could try showing a bit of support or am I being a bit old fashioned?

Hi Mrs Dicky,
What a load of bo**ocks.
My other half has been at all the race meetings that I have ever entered. Over the years we have met some fantastic people (and some not so). Made good friends, have had a fantastic time and she has been as passionate from the pits as I have been in the drivers seat. If I messed up I knew she would be furious. You may well find that it will bring you even closer together. I wish him the very best of luck.

Some wives/girlfriends really get into it and enjoy it. There are plenty of wives and girlfriends about, and there is always a good social side to any paddock. my mates missus goes to all of his races and they live in the camper with 2 kids one under 1 and the other 4...

But be prepared to be abandoned by your other half, with him totally focused on the car and the race.

Most Guys really appreciate a bit of support

My missus however would rather stick pins in her eyes :-(

Try it, and see. take tea and cake out regularly when hes working on the car and offer plenty of soothing words when it all goes pear shaped..." your not working on that bloody car again are you" after the 5th straight night of trying to get it to work properly however doesn't help.....

This sounds familiar - I sold my Griff to buy my race Tuscan.

My wife enjoys the race weekends. Its the seemingly endless preparation and constant motorsport talk for weeks before that cheese her off!

Its very different going to a race meeting when you know someone racing - its far more interesting and enjoyable.

Mrs. Z has been to every sprint I've done in the last 3 years. OK, sometimes she just sits in the tow car and reads (or sleeps - those 5AM starts are brutal) but usually she potters round and chats to people, fetches my bacon butties, makes me coffee and generally has "a day out". We've made some good friends that we look forward to seeing, and we've even started socialising with people outside of sprints. Of course, when that green light comes on, all bets are off!

So, I would go for it, if I were you. You might well enjoy it.

Why not go sprinting and then you can both compete in the same car.

That way everyones happy (assuming the idea of driving a griff, tuscan or any TVR hell for leather round a track with the aim of beating your partner appeals - and surely your presence on PH guarantees that it must at least a bit)
