Putting all the shite to one side that seems to be flooding the media and ITV's production of the Lewis Hamilton F1 show each weekend, I have to admit I loved is pre-race comments about the smallish off he had on Thursday...

When talking about how close he was getting to the barriers in qualifying, he said that he did indeed kiss the barriers on a few occasions during Q3, but he French kissed the barriers on Thursday!

...I'm certainly warming to the guy, and loved the way he threw the car about on Saturday, which for me was far more exciting than the actual race.

Bet if the monkey comment had been made by a backmarker about the front of the grid Hamilton would have cried 'racism'!

He does cope well with the media, especially when some people want him to be a tt.

I had lunch today with a girl who I've known for about 8 years and has never shown any interest in F1 before.

She said she'd seen an interview with Lewis on Saturday where he was asked whether he had a place in Monaco and he'd replied that he thought that was a bit of a cliche.

I didn't see the interview but she said he came over so well that she decided to watch the race yesterday!

I thought the "Hamilton effect" was a media construction until lunchtime but she's interested now and will be watching other races this year. She even asked me how much a Silverstone ticket was!!!
