Speed cameras in Newmarket...
Discussion
Everyone,
Probably updated on the old GPS things already, but just to let the locals / passers through that a new speed camera is up in a rather sneaky location in Newmarket.
If you know the area there are two ways to get to the town - both off the A14. Anyway, the one where you have loads of nice fast pin straight roads down by the racecourse entrance - the A1303 I think now has a sneaky camera.... Its on the section where you enter the top of the town and where it drops from 60 to 40 and then almost immediately to 30.... guess where the camera is?
Ok, so its visible and not hidden, but you try dropping from 60 to 40 to 30 in quick succession while coming down a hill... Dont think its active now, but will be very shortly I imagine.
Anyway, the junction just before the camera is the site of two major accidents in the last 8 months - including at least one death. Could this be a camera to address the safety issue at a notorious junction which has had serious accidents? Is this the first instance of a camera sited to prevent more accidents? Surely not....
The first instance of a 'safety camera' addressing the safety issue? Comments?
Cheers,
Paul
