Wanting to fit some Boost (or at least a reasonably up to date style) alloy wheel onto the old girl but being an '86 I believe will have an older style hub setup as with all rear drum braked versions, most available alloys seem to only really fit on disc braked models post about 94.

However whilst idly searching last night for alternatives, I stumbled upon this:

Anyone done such a thing, is it mighty dangerous and fool hardy or perfectly ok in the real world?

It sounds abit dodgy. Spacers mught work, but im not sure. I wouldn't try bodging the hub to make the wheel fit.

Plenty of nice looking wheels out there that'll fit an older landy without resorting to ing up your hubs. I think mine looks good on it's alloys, I'm still on a drummed rear axle.

I have seen this type of mod done a few times but it really depends on how you go about it.
If you really cannot afford the alloys that will fit your hubs, then it is quite acceptable to get them turned down by a machine shop properly so the internals do not foul the hubs and flange nuts.

Spacers are an answer but remember that if they are too wide they will convert a turning moment into a bending moment and shag your wheel bearings very quickly.

As has already been said there are a lot of great looking aftermarket alloys out there ready to fit!

Right sounds like a non starter, tbh I thought that it was a case that most of the alloys out there were not set up to fit the drum brake models. If there are a selection then I shall get on the blower to a few companies phone

Don't do it,I tried it and had to take so much of the bolts that the hubs allmost fell off the car 6 months later.Wheel spacers will do the trick or just swap the complete front hubs and swivels from a 300 Disco, which are cheap as chips on ebay, you will also need to swap the diff though as the later half shafts are 24 spline (old are 10 spline). The rears are no problem and will go straight on.

The axle swivel pins on a 300 Disco are smaller than those on the 110, the 110 having been designed to carry more weight.

For my money standard steels look better smile
