I'm getting married soon, and have been thinking of selling the TVR for something else in order to free up a bit of cash for the big day. So I'm wondering...

1. What would you get as an alternative? Say about £10k - £12k...
2. Am I just being daft?

I've only had this thought since getting back from a long weekend rumbling through Champagne in her where she didn't miss a beat and came home with 41 bottles in the boot... we haven't fallen out or anything, just letting the head rule the heart for a while..!

It's just a thought at the moment, but you know how these things can play on your mind...

As an exercise, it's be interesting to get some ideas from other Chimaera owners as to what they would have as an alternative if nothing else!

If you consider what your car is worth and what you lose selling & buying are you likely to gain anything?
I doubt you will buy anything better for that sort of money(if you have a good one) TBH.

I am aware that I'll be unable to get anything like this - but really wanted some suggestions!

And yes, I know it's a daft idea...

If I had to have a 4 seater now instead of my Chim I'd be looking at either a Monaro (not quite into your budget yet though) or an M3. Wild card - how about a V8 MGZT?

evo or impreza?
going for a test drive in something else might make your mind up for you smile
I had a Mazda 3 courtesy car (apparently the sport version) a few weeks ago which made me really grateful to have my Chim.

What about an E39 M5, a genuine 400hp panzer wagon, 0-60 5 sec and room for future family. I am selling mine to make way for the Chim 500.

Yes, I've thought of an M5, could be an answer there!

Will be needing the 4 seats sooner as we're getting a dog, one step at a time eh!

If you're looking for something similar - why make a change at all? Are you sure you're not getting leaned upon by SWMBO ? smile But my real question is how did you cross the channel and how was ground clearance on ferry/Shuttle ramps etc?

Ha

I was in the reverse situation. Having run eight saabs (allbeit tuned up, the last much faster than my chim 400) i missed out on my TVR planned purchase time becuase of the darkness at the top of the stairs. Never pressured or anything, just knew i needed certain wonga left over if we wanted to continue the lifestyle we'd come accustom too.

Anyway, when things whent titsup and i became young free and ever so single again I bought the chim. No reason why, ladies kids or dogs.

Now ive got the chim, and when the next interesting person comes along it will be much harder to get rid of the car as opposed to try and graduate to owning one.

What im saying in short is, once its gone, its gone. Sure you can buy another but the logic for it wont be too strong, compared ot the logic of you've got one, you know it, it works-why sell.

Flipside is, you sell it and someone buys it who has never had one before, then the love affaire starts all over again and someone becomes very vety happy.

Hmm, I sense a recurring theme here (although I'm keeping my 900T alongside the Tiv)... biggrin

Before making rash decisions make sure she isnt marrying you because of the Chim in the first place... if OK on this score then read on:

I reckon its a question of seating: I cannot think of anything better than TVR for value for money with only two seats, but if you are thinking of children you'll obviously need something built like a tank with four seats, and modern enough to have a few airbags and some proper child seat mountings.

With kids on board you should not be driving hard anyway, and you'll want something comfortable and quiet to be in.

Next question is how much fuel consumption you can stand which basically makes your decision easier.

I'd consider a Jaguar S-Type.

Changed your mind about selling now? hehe

I've used both. Getting on to le Shuttle is no problem as all the gradients are quite gentle. In fact the only time I ever saw a car have a problem was a few years back when a guy in somethig Italian and exotic could not fit his wheels inside the carriage "kerbs" without damaging his rims, so he went in with one wheel on the sidewalk, so to speak.

Did the Portsmouth to St Malo overnight ferry last year. Absolutely no problems at all despite being two-up loaded to the gunwhales with gear. No problems getting on or getting off. On the way home the French Bosun asked us to move the car as we were parked right on the edge of one of those metal folding ramps they pull up to close off a car deck.
"I do not wish to break your pipe, monsieur" was what he told me in the most Clouseau-esqe accent you ever heard...

So what I guess I'm saying is that the sailors are aware of potential problems and will help you find a nice safe spot to park.

Yes laod masters are very aware of looking out for such cars as TVRs, porschers etc!

They tend be less hot on modified stuff!

My fathers standard 9-3 aero ground to a complete holt, crushing the midsection of the exhaust on a brittany ferries portsmouth crossing! And i bottomed out coming off the train in a lowered (45mm) 9000.

The rule is, dont trust anyone. If in doubt check for yourself. I insisted on the retrun journey to take my car in the lower hold of the train without the ramp despite the loady telling me id be ok. He got quite cross when i just ignored him and did my own thing. Once I showed him the damage caused by the outward journey he said he didnt understand "as it's just a saab". Confirms the logic that their mentality is, if its meant to be fast its low otherwise it will be ok and they may not actualy look at whats going on.
