Anybody have any ideas on how to store the roof panel on top of the boots contents as opposed to it being normally vertical against the fuel tank.

I remember reading somewhere that this was indeed only possible on late model Chimaeras as the boot opens to more or less 90 degrees to allow this. Is this the case or is there a special technique with older models?

Out of interest, who bothers transporting a spare wheel, or is it just tyre weld foam you carry?

I have an "X" reg which is quite late but can't see how it would fit? Put it this way, if it does fit I have been doing it the wrong way for years(possible)hehe

I carry a 50mph flat wheel and two shaving foam things. Had little success with the can in the past, hence the wheel.

I always carry the wheel - if the tyre gets a tear in it at least you will be able to get to a tyre place ( if only slowly )

I managed to fit an 8 man tent , clothes for a long weekend plus assorted camping bits in the boot, then managed to lay the roof horizontal on top of everything rahter than the normal vertical :-)

News to me, and I've had my Chimaera for over 5 years.

OK, mine's a '98 and I can't get it in there (it's hard enough getting it in vertically without knocking the wings)!

I thought the roof was completely soft top. So is the front bit solid like a tuscan and just the rear window section soft ?

Yes, the part from the windscreen back to the 'hoop' above the rear screen is a single piece (of fibreglass I believe - despite the carbon fibre interior finish).

That's quite ironic. I think you'll find the Tuscan has a roof like the Chimaera, rather than the other way round. hehe

Although the design dates back to the wedges of the 1980's.

I saw BtheP put his in up side down at PF07, i.e. front of roof pointing downward, mohair side to the rear as normal. It is more difficult to get it in and out but when it's in it tucks nicely around the petrol tank leaving loads more usable storage space

Mine is a 98 too.
When I say I put the roof on top of everything, it wasn't like it was horizontal, it was at an angle.
I think the trick is to keep the left side empty, then you just go through the normal procedure of putting the roof in, the bottom will naturally come forward as it rests on the stuff in the boot.

IIRC thats how I did mine too - but it was very nearly flat a bit of juggling and it will go in on top of the tent nearly horizontal but you do need to leave a space in the n/s of the boot to poke the roof into before juggling it around. It was a year or so back so I dont remember all the details, too much beer.... I just remember it working.
