OK after my last attempt I'll try and make sure these questions don't end up to be such a muppet fest.....

I'm looking at replacements for the OE speakers in my 964 cab. From doing a bit of digging all I can find is the main door speakers are 5 1/4" (13cm).

Can anyone help with the sizes for the others (Small front door tweeters and rear panels) and what are good suggestions for direct replacements (or even upgrade sizes which don't need vast amounts of work to fit) please?

So you suggest just replacing the main unit with a composite speaker and disconnecting the tweeter?

Previous owner did it to mine seems to have worked but if had choice would revert to component set-up but I dont have the pre-requisite knowledge to do this!

I'd suggest MB Quart speakers (high quality German kit, so definitely appropriate here) and talking to Carl Baker (07720723407, website). He's a TVR specialist but has done plenty of work on Porsche, Ferrari and other presitge marques and could either sell you the speakers or fit them for you. Nice bloke too.

Many thanks Steve, good call - I should've added I'm trying to do this for under £300 so I'm afraid that's too good!

A front pair of the base range (not components, so no issues with where to fit the crossover) would be ~£110. I can't recall if this is inc or exc VAT though, I think inc, so if you fit them yourself, you'd be well inside your budget.

Digging deeper I found the MB Quart Discus range which appear to have the composite speakers for £90. That appears to be pretty good?

They're very good, just be careful where you get them from as there's a bit of curious history surrouding the brand. There was a merger between MBQ and a US firm (forget who) but the upshot was there are components built in the US, not Germany, which share the name but not the quality. IIRC some aspect of the merger, or resulting restructuring was then found to be illegal and MB Quart Germany re-established itself later on. Simple version, avoid Quarts from US Ebay as they may not be what you think they are. The other gotcha is there are very few actual retailers in the UK, mostly just UK Ebay sellers. From their listings, they don't appear to be actual retailers, because they don't have the complete range. If their stuff is genuine then I doubt you'll have a problem, as it's very well built, the downside is if you do, then you don't have the backup.

Steve.

This lot http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_... seem to be bona-fide - I think I got mine from them. If you go for MB Quart component speakers, the crossovers are too big to fit where Porsche put the originals.

The rears are 6x4, but on the original speakers, the speaker and grill mount is a single piece unit. If you want to use your original grills, there's a 944 part that lets you mount a generic 6x4 speaker and clip the grills on.

I have the infinity in my 964, and youy can go bigger than the factory 5 1/4; I think mine may even be 6+.

No cutting required; the factory speakers are within a plastic frame, so the new speakers can go beyond. I'm not making sense here, but you'll see when you take them off.
